Thank you Gary. It cleaned up very well. The scales were filthy... Disgusting, even. Later today, I am going to give it a run on my Norton 4/8K stone, followed by my Naniwa 12K Super Stone.
F.W.Engels are wonderful shavers. They used Engel's proprietary Argo Steel .It is fairly hard that takes and holds a great edge .You should be very happy with your Engels .
Be sure to color the proper areas with the appropriate color green. It highlights the razors look, just right.
Two satinedge dubl duck the left one is a pearl the right is a bresduck. That brings my collection to four bresduck S & two pearl ducks. Got these end of year begining of year 40$ or less.
A Papillon or Butterfly double bladed razor: This one has a set of blades faces that I have seen on at least 3 others - floral pattern on one and that same pattern with “London” on the other side. I have no remnants of a tang stamp on this one, but the others had Warranted Cast Steel, Acier Fondu, and Sheffield on them in a very poor, worn stamp. Seems like the common thought is these were made by French Napoleonic prisoners of war, who made and sold these tools to possibly better their living conditions. As far as using... not sure Very weird feel and the design is unbalanced since another blade is sitting in the scale. Here is a pic of the pinning at the pivot... they move pretty well, with no signs of hitting the other blade or scale. I may get up the courage at some point... okay, I’ll do it... maybe. Definitely different. Happy hunting. Tom
Bengalia J.J.-NY Unknown with any of the history behind this. If anyone knows the history, please chime in. It is old, and still had grease on it, and doesn't look as it it has touched a hone. I have already restored it. Photos on the restoration section.
I just received a Boker King Cutter 5/8 round point for under $80 on EBay. I have seen brand new ones being retailed for over $150. This razor is hardly used. The only thing wrong with it is the back face has a small water stain. To me, that's not a biggie. I tested the razor and it is shave ready. I started straight shaving last October. Presently, I own 7 straights and a shavette. I bought 2 Dovo's and a Ralf Aust brand new. The rest were bought on Ebay and they were great purchases.
Excellent. I prefer Vintage to New, anyway. That Boker looks like it has never been honed. To get the water stain off, just use a little Flitz, and it should come off, fast.
I was going to do that eventually. You are right about the razor never being honed. According to the seller, he only used it once, but I take that with a grain of salt. I shave tested it on my sideburn fuzz and there wasn't any problem. Of course, I removed the oil and disinfected the blade with alcohol as a precaution. I will shave with it tomorrow, but I don't forsee any problems with this razor. I always can refresh it with my barber's hone and my Crox treated webbed strop. I couldn't let this razor go by. I keep saying that I have to stop looking at EBay. Lol! Seriously, I have enough straights to keep me satisfied. My next major purchased will probably be a Norton 4/8 combo, but that can wait until late this year or next year. I may go the lapping film method to hone my straights. I'll see when the time approaches that it is necessary to hone my razors. The only razor that I would have professionally honed is my vintage Fiodur 7/8 Spanish point and my 2 6/8 Ralph Aust Spanish points. My 2 Dovo's, my vintage WF Engel and my newly acquired Böker, I will hone myself. I am in a pretty set position because I can get excellent shaves with every one of my razors.
