February Favorites!! February 16 Razor - Muhle R41 Blade - (3) Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat Brush - Omega 10066 Post - Alum Wrapping up three shaves with this setup and staying with the Fat as well. Needed to add another favorite in the Omega 10066 boar brush. This was one of my early brush purchases. It's a nice little workhorse that is as soft as a badger from use and always produces a great lather. I get tied up with synthetics and forget how nice this brush really is, so a nice diversion to use it again. Three passes, no nicks, cuts, and mostly quiet alum. It simply gets no better than that with a BBS finish. The Muhle is a beast. And I like it. Very much. Tomorrow starts the Moon Soap trials and reviews. Have a great Sunday!

I broke this off of my MultiQuote to make sure it didn't get any more confusing. Since I'm mostly a vintage razor user, but have dabbled in modern DE's, I want to get us on the same page. Assumed knowledge and terminology may have crossed wires. If anyone saw clearly through this conversation skip the next 2 paragraphs and set me straight. When I think of DE razors there are 3 piece & TTO types. A few lesser seen alternatives but that pretty well covers 90%+ of what's easily available. If it's a TTO (twist to open) short of getting into the guts and doing possible destructive disassembly, most users just spin the bottom knob to open or close while changing blades. Since the topic was "different handles" I'm assuming we aren't talking TTO DE. That leaves the majority of DE razors that require unthreading the top cap to swap blades. Most common have a threaded stud that extends downward from the top cap, through the base plate, into a threaded opening in the handle. If yours isn't this 3 piece design, but instead a 2 piece where the base plate is firmly attached to the handle then I misspoke. In my experience the 2 piece type are far less common and I have no idea if or how a handle might be changed.
Thanks Jason! It was a wild find that I've had so long I forget what I gave for it. Seems like it was crusty when I got it, but it shined up well. There's some small chips in the TTO knob paint but not enough to repaint it yet. The plating is in great shape. The Rubberset 400 handle is one of a prototype run by Steve @Vlasta. He told me it was the first off the line during that first batch. I don't know if any others got markings. The top end where the ferrule screws on is marked "888" which is considered Triple Fortune in Chinese numerology in Hong Kong where the handle was made. I purchased one of those for my back door neighbor. He uses that Magic Powder to remove hair on his head. Hipster beards are a fad. Actual beards do serve a purpose. If I was Canadian or a Yankee American I'd think about a winter beard. Those of us in The South don't need that face fur 10 months out of the year.
That brings back memories, I lived in Tucson for 12 years and Phoenix for 4. I am glad you got to enjoy a hike with Asha on a clear day without the smog I remember from the winters. I enjoy the models too, keep them coming.
Sunday Shave: I pick up this Jwest because it is a near wedge, unusual for JWest razors. It was supposed to come shave ready but just pulled the hair out instead of cutting. I tried to hone it and failed. Second attempt at honing was a charm, it is shave ready now. The all plastic "straight"? I think I gave two bucks for one and picked it up thinking one day I'd let my grandson use it to shave. That back door neighbor had his water turned off for not paying his bill. He came over , asked if he could use my facilities to do his head and I remembered the toy razor. It worked as designed to scrape off the Naired low afro. I've never considered using the Magic product. I'd be afraid of some kind of chemical burn.
i thought nair was the only product out there for hair removal..cool for those who use it. not for me either..
just got back a while ago,first time out for a few days..wife and i went for a meal with my son and his wife..very cool..
