Day 45.

I decided to try one of the Russian blades today. "Gravjura" from russianrazors.com. NOS, made in 1965. In the factory "Trud," that always makes me do a double take. It has a different feel to it than its German kin. A little bit stiffer. And sings with a bit less gusto. It's a nice, smooth shaver though. I like it.
And to go with it, a cream called Морской бриз (Sea Breeze.) From "vyatko" on ebay. Great cream, okay scent. Lavender, and something herbal. Rosemary, sage, something like that.
Three passes with the straight, then touched up with the micromatic, and I'm good to go.

 

My technique with a straight is starting to get pretty good. When I started out several months back, I looked like I lost a fight with several alley cats. A couple of bad setdowns gave me racing stripes, etc. etc. Today I was thinking how it is actually a bit difficult to cut myself straight shaving now. As I was thinking this I started daydreaming and moved the blade sideways enough to penetrate the skin. It bled less than a weeper and was quickly fixed with alum, but also reminded me that daydreaming (i.e. lack of focus) and straight shaving are not to be mixed. Regardless, an awesome shave ensued with a "no harm, no foul" slip. Also, my 1 oz sample of Oleo Montrose Beach is a tenacious soap, and may even last through the rest of the month. I am absolutely enjoying it as I chip away at it. If I didn't have WAAAAAY too many soaps and I wasn't starting my soap reduction plan with sample sized pucks, this one might really be a keeper.

 

You are getting great consistent straight razor shaves, Joseph! Great report!

Welcome to The 30 Day Crew Carl @MaxG! You are going to be a tough student.

Sounds like you came to class well prepared. Doesn't mean it won't get better but you skipped right over the pain and heartache that brought many of us to this group.

Understanding you are new to the Wet Shave scene and don't have the over flowing cabinets full of gear many of suffer from puts you in the right place to do A Rule. Are you going to try using the same gear for thirty days or shaves depending on how often you shave? If yes, watch out for The Enablers. They are a crafty bunch of shavers heavily invested on Wall Street in cabinet company stocks.

Glad to have you on The Crew! Williams soap & boar brush, a Personna blade, and Clubman? I don't have Godfather razor, but an Italian made Fatip is within reach. I don't have to dig too deep to enjoy an inspired shave.

 

When my two older boy were in their later teen years I bought them patchwork leather trench coats. The Matrix had hit theaters so they were quite stylish. Within a month the Trench Coat Mafia soured the idea. Didn't stop my boys from wearing their coats, but they got "the look" from folks who didn't know them.

Not much time to check in today. Not at work and enjoying some family activities. Did get in a shave earlier- easy 2 pass shave with this fave combo. Everything worked as it should. I have no better razor in my den, especially for two passes.

the macs and jean jackets etc were common in the 70s as well,maybe longer here,the other side of the tracks were the disco heads in the 70s,in the 80s it was the new wave crew with their rugby pants and alligator branded golf shirts or jocks as we called them..in the end everyone got along for the most part..i think a lot of folks thought life was like fast times at ridgemont high or the breakfast club..in the end most went to work,some to jail or moved away..i moved away and went to work..most car nuts/gearheads wore t-shirts and jeans,and long sleeved shirts loosely like a jacket,,i was /is/am a gearhead..

 

Is the Rockwell brush made from boar?

I use WH also for cleanups. Works great. I think you could put a rusty old blade in the Rockwell razor and still get a good shave . Ive used all different blades and gotten great results.

Only $485 for that brush eh? NEIN!

The 1924 . The unloved razor of so many. Apparently the head tends to hold water when rinsing is what I've read . Never used one myself .

Ugh , the rugby pants era. I preferred jeans and boots . Either cowboy or engineer style boots were in at the time . Also went through the white high top basketball shoe phase in the 80s

 

Well, the only other "gear" I have is one other brand of soap, and another brand of blades. I do have some AS on order, so I may switch that up, but the rest of the gear I used today I can easily commit to stay with.

My mom bought ME a jeans jacket....if there was one type of person who wouldn't wear it it was ME. I tried it on s few times, amd said "Doesn't match with who I am".
