February 20 - NO SHAVE
As I mentioned yesterday, today was going to be a busy day off. Well, actually, given that it's now nearly 2 a.m. on Wednesday, I said that on Monday about yesterday. Here goes the time warp again. Anyway, I finally got back to the house around 7:30 tonight, had to eat, change out internet modem and router as we chase down a problem, then take care of a couple more things and I just decided it was too late to worry about a shave. Tomorrow at work I have to do a lot of cleaning and organizing as we have the Regional President and Vice President visiting Thursday. I loathe having to deal with the high muckity-muck types, so I'm already in a bad mood and who cares if I look good in the morning. I'll try to be presentable Thursday.
I did receive a quite excellent email today, however, that is worth sharing. I'm sure many of you remember my New SC Deluxe - largely because
@Drygulch dared me to acquire it and use it given that it was haunted. Or so the seller said. It's a really cool razor, and came to me in pretty bad shape. Here's a picture of it when it arrived. Very little plating left on the brass cap, and the underside had some issues with brass corrosion. After cleaning it up it was definitely usable but a pretty sad looking old razor. By the way - that blade that came in it dated to around 1953. Yeah, this one had sat for a long time. No wonder the spirit of its owner was miffed and causing trouble (so the seller said).
Well, I sent Matthew to the resort in North Carolina known as razorplate.com and in the capable hands of Chris Evatt down there. He has done other replating for me and his work is outstanding. I figured this would be a challenge he could overcome. He finished the job, and today sent me the pictures of how the razor looks now. This is what will be arriving back in a couple of days. The restored, healthy, and quite happy Matthew - the "formerly haunted razor". What a beauty!
