I like to use my Gillette Slim Adjustable at setting #4. Works great for me. Do you stick to the same setting on your adjustable(s) , or do you mix it up ?
Before I was goaded into upping mine I'd settled at 5. Once 7 became comfortable I had to try 9. The Fat Boy never gets used on any but that now. I hear if you are into Hot Rodding they can be over clocked. I longed to hold a Merkur Futur and those crafty Chinese guys produced a clone. From reports the Q-Shave or Ming Shi 2000s shave very similar to the originals. With a range of 1 - 6 I've settled in around 4-1/2.
Not sure about the whole over clocking deal, but just set the razor at 9 and let her go. Really no reason to do anything other than that.
Wide open is the best way to drive most anything. People like to be silly and twist knobs. Turn it up leave it up and turn it loose.
I've been using my Slim and my Fat Boy on 9 for quite a while now but recently I've discovered that I can get just as good shave with them both set to 7. Maybe as my technique gets better I don't need quite as an aggressive setting.
I use a Progress-I have played with different settings, I’ve tried leaving it set at each setting for a while, I’ve tried starting out on 5 and gradually turning it down. But, recently I’ve started using it the way the original instructions suggested with great results. It sounds funny to say that, original instructions are sometimes written by people that don’t know what they’re talking about( just see how much a bag of dog food says to give your dog). The original instructions said to use a low setting and then a high setting. I close it all the way for the first pass and open up to 5 for the second and subsequent passes and get outstanding results. Isn’t that crazy.
