I seem to be with some others Danny, you should stop beating around the bush and get right to the point.
    Really....

Thanks Clint. This is helpful information. I'd be inclined to soak a vintage 400 handle in rubbing alcohol. I bet that would eventually loosen the glue holding the old knot. I definitely wouldn't do this on a non-metal brush handle, however.

Great shave, Gary! That's just about the perfect set up for a fine shave. Enjoy the time with your family.

From personal experience alcohol won’t work. On the vintage 400 I’ve found it best to unscrew the ferrule with a strap wrench. The cut the knot and drill through the center. Place the ferrule on a work bench. The press down on a section of the knot with a flat tip screwdriver. With luck the knot will break into two or three pieces and fall out. Otherwise smaller pieces will break off until the knot falls out.

I’ve used this method several times on modern resin brushes with no ill effect. As long as you don’t leave things unattended I’ve found it less likely to damage a handle than using a dremel tool.

    Good afternoon guys!
I was going to wait until this evening but I couldn't wait to use my F Herder 15/16 square point. Ok, this time I used VDH luxury soap and my Semogue badger. Needed 2 passes with minor touchup. Unfortunately, I could not perform a hat trick because I netted 2 weepers. However, BBS shave was delivered. Topped the shave with Old Spice. I have to say after 3 shaves with this Herder, I am impressed and liking it so much! Although it is a big blade, it is well-balanced to make it easy to maneuver. I am young to this game and I still don't know what width I like the best. Presently, I am confortable with 5/8, 6/8, 7/8 and 15/16. I guess I have to sit back, take it all in and enjoy the show.

    Guys, have a great afternoon!

Charlie, I’ve restored 9 vintage 400s and have spent more time than I would care to remember polishing. Doug and Mark have some of them now.

Clint, have you ever tried denatured alcohol?
Not on resin or plastic of course.

I had a Corolla before the Camry....now I have a Chevy Cobalt, which has similarities to the Corolla. 325,000 eh? I don't drive much...I doubt I'll get to 325 on the Cobalt, but it's my favorite car. If/when I move, I am not above driving all the way. We shall see.

No I have not. On the 400s I followed the suggestions on a big thread at Badger and Blade. At onetime vintage 400 handles were going for $100 each on eBay so I stuck with the tried and true method.

The sound effects on the Stooges episodes are funny by themselves(that is, not counting what they all say).

Yes, I have been getting them as well. Also, I have had to hit the like button twice before it registered.

It went great, Paul. Lots of elementary school girls dancing together in a circle while their Dads watched. Apparently they still know the Macarena, while the Dads... not so much. Thanks for asking.

Maybe they just want to make sure you really like it a lot before they commit to telling anyone...
