This isn't your Fathers Shave Report. Shave of the Day threads tend to be short, sweet, and just the facts, Ma'am. This is Shave School where you get extra credit for including all the details, references, footnotes. and 8 X 10 color glossies with descriptions on the back. It could make the difference in one of us catching a clue to assist you in improving your results. Or like Joseph's @Primotenore and Neal's @NCoxSTL posts, we just enjoy the reading.

What brand of blade were you using? There's a "standard" hole pattern in DE blades. Then there's the vintage razor you are using. I wonder if the pegs on the top cap and the alignment holes on the blade allowed for less than precise centering.
I've not checked, but I assume modern blades all use "The Standard" hole pattern.

Generally similar angle of attack, but geometry may differ significantly since they were made by different companies decades apart.
When I shave under my jaw line (on my neck, you Shennanigators) I've learned to break it into two zones. Actual vertical neck above my shirt collar, and where my jaw juts out horizontal from my neck to jaw line. Two distinct planes each with a different angle that requires a slightly different grip.
That's "Unlearning" cart habits. A cartridge tries to protect you with glide and lube strips, bumpers and guards. It needs to mashed against the skin to get the blades to make contact with the beard. These old "Safety" razors assumed you didn't want the danger of a straight razor, but you understood all the techniques involved - Light pressure, angle of attack, & skin stretching. Techniques can trump tools.

Good afternoon fellas! Due to the storm, I was off today. I just finished my afternoon shave. Shaving with my Fried. Herder, I switched to Stirling Sandalwood and lathered with my Semogue Badger. Three passes, one nick, but IBSS+. Didn't feel like running after baby. Finished with Stirling Sandalwood AS. I feel refreshed! Guys, enjoy your day.
