I would also add that the 45 ACP is a very easy round to get good results with reloading. I’ve found it less time consuming to come up with very accurate combos compared to some other rounds.

Well, well, well. Wasn't this an interesting shave tonight. Still using the Gillette Travel Razor with a Bic CP and I switched to the Truefitt & Hill 1805 soap with a boar brush. This soap carries a legendary name and was brought back from England by the great @Bama Samurai himself and gifted to me. I have used it a number of times since, and always with a bit of a mixed reaction to it. It's a bit difficult to lather, but seemed adequate. The scent is nothing terribly special but it's not bad, and the slickness seemed to be ok. In other words - seemed like a decent enough soap if not exciting. But, since it's from an old-school British shaving company, exciting may be the wrong thing to look for.

Tonight, however, I'd have to reassess the soap and give it an absolute "F". Now, the puck hasn't been used in several months so it was very dry. Bone dry. So I did add water to the puck and let it soak a bit. I chose the boar brush to stick with my "no synthetic" rule this month and also because this brush typically gives me an easy lather. I soaked the brush, shook it out fairly well and went to work. I immediately had a problem. I was getting suds off of the puck. As in - big bubble let's take a bubble bath level suds. I went ahead and loaded up the brush, went to the face for the face lather and started the shave. Right side done, not terrible not great and the left side at that point - barren of any soap. It was as if I hadn't lathered. I went over that side again quickly and finished the first pass. I'm thinking way too much water. Seemed like a broken lather. So, I squeezed out the Semogue leaving it barely damp, then reloaded the brush. Aha! Success!! The brush looked more like it should and I had no big soapy bathtub bubbles. I went to work lathering my face and while still thin it did look better. Maybe more like a Williams lather for me. However, before I was even finished with the right side my entire left cheek was bare. Bare and dry as though no soap had been appliled. What the...........well, ok, let's get serious. I finished the right side and grabbed my Two-Banded Stirling Synthetic. I barely dipped the tip of the brush and went to work loading off of the still wet puck. The synthetic filled up quickly and seemed full of soap. Face lathered with just a bit of a rinse first. The result? I made it through the pass but just barely as the lather just evaporated in front of my eyes.

Well, enough of a shave. I managed a barely DFS but I'll make it through a meeting and work tomorrow. Now to diagnose. I picked up the synthetic and worked up a hand lather. It seemed like it was making a nice thick base to work with but the first time I stopped working it I saw it fading and noticed that the bubbles are still oversized for a shaving lather. I squeezed out the brush and had a handful of what felt like a very cushy and slick lather. But the bubble problem was all through it and it didn't take long for it to start to fade. Seems like I don't have an answer tonight, if there is an answer. I'm puzzled because while this soap never made my top soap list it never performed quite this badly. I decided to fill the container with water and let it soak until tomorrow night and I'll hit it again with a dry brush and go from there. Maybe I can get it figured out. Or, maybe the reviewer on Reddit I read after tonight's shave is right - and it just isn't something that works all that well. We'll see.

Another 5 gallon buck of beads, cups, assorted Moon Pies and Tootsie Rolls, little plastic footballs and other assorted stuff thrown from parade floats. The grandkids enjoy the teams of motorcycle cops with lights and sirens, loud music, being able to actually stand in the road without getting fussed at. I dressed in layers for the 40F degrees and breezy but dry weather. Everyone settled in after all that activity, and I got my quiet shave time in. Easy lather with the Limited Edition '18 Meet Up soap Adam @Drygulch arranged whipped up by the brush by Jason @jtspartan and the synth knot. First pass with the Chinese rendition of the Mellon head DE received in a trade with John @John Ruschmeyer told me I needed a fresh blade. Out with the Personna Red, in with an ASP, and away I went. Three passes, full clean up on the edges and corners, and all's well but for the tiniest bit of stubble on the lowest part of my neck. No blood on steel, and the AS went on quiet.

I ride the cap, this razor seems to be made for that style of DE shaving.
Because of it being the 3rd shave in a row, I got a better shave than the last two days.
Gonna be hard to use a different razor after using this champ.

Brush: JR #142 black badger
Soap: Stirling Green
Post: Witch hazel, Stirling Green aftershave

Easy shave with this combination. Stirling Green was a Black Friday release. Wonderful scent based on Polo Green cologne. The lather was excellent as usual and I'm getting better with the PAL Adjustable. Two tiny weepers on my chin area that cleared up easily. Must have lost the angle there for a second. But a nice shave in the end.

It was an interesting shave this morning. While shaving with the open blade shavette, I started thinking about shave angles. One of the discussions about open blades is the ability to fine tune the shave to your personal preferences. And usually that discussion says something the the effect of the steeper the angle of the blade, the more aggressive. So in my head, I wondered: is this really more aggressive? Just because I can feel the blade more, and perhaps it gets more uncomfortable, does this make it more aggressive? It seems this is really a discussion on efficiency, not aggressiveness. I guess the question I have, and I would like to throw out to the 30DC (where I know the discussion will stay fun and civil): what really is the definition of aggressive when we talk about razors?

Since I wasn't focused on the actual shave at all, but more of angles, I ended with a one pass high grade CCS. Sometimes, to me at least, there is a lot of satisfaction in getting a more than acceptable shave from one pass. Since was almost surprised when I finished my shave this morning, it felt natural to call this good.

It was also my first use of the soap, which is completely different in scent from anything else I have. To me, there is some apricot in the scent, even though it isn't listed. This must be the way the orange blossom, honey and vanilla come together. There is definitely a middle eastern vibe to it as well, with a bit of woodiness in the end. Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect when I bought this, but I love it. I am about to pass by SWMBO to see about her approval on my way out the door. I hope everyone has a great day!

A little late start to this month, only 2 shaves so far, been real busy.
My focus this month will be on my flare tip.
Brush should be the same all month, Perfecto pure badger.
Blade will be parker.
Soaps will be what ever I use.
I just want to get to know this razor.
So far all the shaves with it have been incredibly awesome.
On the second shave I had a weeper, no problem just a little slip around the adams apple. It is a big change from the teck heads I used last month.

Seems like more than 36 SR shaves, but I think that's the correct count. I am not writing it down anywhere and
sometimes I am not so sure...
Thought about tradition today and broke out the Williams. This is the first SR shave with this soap and I was
a bit curious as to how it would compliment the shave.
M-Bombed and Bloomed it today. 4 drops of the menthol juice on top of the moistened puck.
Results were more than satisfactory regarding the menthol level. As to the lather...
well, Tallow Williams is a Primo Soap (pun intended). Very slick, incredibly dense,
able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, (who's paying attention?) and even the
SOC Boar, which doesn't hold nearly the amount of lather as some of my other brushes, really got its load on.
The Wade & Butcher is not my best edge. It's a simple as that. It needs help and when I get some time
I am going to work on improving it.
Nevertheless, I was able through persistence, to achieve my usual BBS from the jawline up
and DFS everywhere else. My neck hair grows in such a pattern, that I have been mostly
unsuccessful finding the proper grip and direction to completely remove it.
Finished with the Clubman. I have to say this about it...Meh.
There are so many better Bay Rum aftershaves, I am not sure why I bother with this one.

I am moving a little slow this morning. It is cold here and I just didn't want to get out of bed. I had planned to use my Delta Echo New SC razor this morning. However, I listed it on Monday night and it sold within the hour. Currently it is on the way to rainy Seattle. So a quick change of plans to use the brass General this morning. Two passes and touch ups just missed the baby. A splash of mentholated witch hazel followed by Stirling R4L aftershave and I am ready to conquer month end accounting duties. The Setup:
Razor: Merkur 34C
Blade: Feather Stainless
Brush: Perfecto Pure Badger
Mug: Henry Cavendish
Post Shave: Witch Hazel and Cetaphil

WTG, XTG, and some touchup for a DFS.

I'm going to come right out with it, NO was hard to lather. I used a generous amount of soap. Added water in search of a good sheen. Never got there. The soap gave me a good, but not thick lather, so I stirred more vigorously. The soap never got thick and wasn't stable throughout the shave. Any recommendations on how to fix this? By the end there was very little left over. Slickness was only OK. Didn't have any major snags.

I really credit today's DFS to the 34C, a fresh blade, and the lessons I learned doing the Fatboy 30dc in Feb. The 34c and feather blade are a great combo for me!

I am disappointed about the performance of the soap because I really enjoyed the scent. The description of the scent is "Bergamot, Loose Black tea, Jasmine, Strawberry, Vanilla. Thé Noir et Vanille, which translates to Black Tea and Vanilla is what we envision a late night cup of tea in Paris smells like." I don't know about a midnight tea in Paris, but it smelled good.

Slickness: 5
Ease of Lather: 4
Post shave feel: 4
Scent strength: Light (Not always a bad thing.)

Shave 2 will be Central Texas Soaps - Mr. Pepper on Friday.

The blackbird continues to provide amazing shaves! After I got the call yesterday to come in for a second interview I immediately knew what setup I would be using this morning. Oleo Soapworks Empire, based on Dior Sauvage, is an amazing modern cologne scent. The performance of the canard base is top notch in every aspect. It is also superbly heat stable for those of you that like to use a hot scuttle, which I did this morning. Total luxury this morning; hot lather, top tier blade, precision machined razor, super soft brush with great backbone. Epic shave! Have a great day my friends!
