When “trying” one out, waiting for the perfect one might not always be the best play. Truth be told, most of us have a favorite razor in mint, very good, and worn-out condition.
If you find one you want to try, in a well worn condition, as long as it is mechanically sound, give it a spin. I doubt it will depreciate much more after spending time at your sink too.

I love my Blue Tip and load it up with Kai blades. Mild or not with a Kai in it that Blue Tip becomes one great shaver. I know some who throw Feather blades in theirs and truth be told, I have tried them also but the Kai is a more rigid blade in my opinion. Anyway, great razor and blades Sir!

All of the Aristocrats(IMO) shave more efficiently than the 3-piece Tech razors. The cap of the tech allows you to get under your nose better and allow you have a more accurate shave.

I can’t answer to that as I have a mustache and goatee. But. I am happy with the tech a touch more due to the aristocrat, that I have, is pretty mild.

The top of the A'crats are all a bit taller. The stack of shekels required to buy an Aristocrat is also a bit taller than for a Tech. I can shape my beard with either, but finding the edge is easier with the Tech. @Jrdelgado you can shape a beard, vandyke, or goatee with an old type really well.

The Aristocrat I’m looking at is a 1940s and it is a 3 piece. Does that change anything with the difference between the FHG tech and the Acrat?

Pictures might help get everyone on the same page. I know I made an assumption that it was a US 40's TTO even though they were calling some razors Aristocrats back in the 1910's(Old Type), 1920's(New Improved), and 1930's(NEW).

look up the Mr Razor on the net and go to the razor section. then start with the old type and you will see the aristocrats made throughout the years, 3 piece, 2 piece and one piece..

Now I am by no means an expert but you say you picked up an A’crat that is a 3 piece from the 40s? Gillette made a plethora of Techs in the 40’s in all forms of cases so that may be possible but I have never seen an Aristocrat branded Fat Handle Tech.
