I will try. I admit my patience this week has already been tested to the limit.

Neal, interesting shave and great write up, as usual. Since you have established that the Zorrik is a crummy DE blade, would you consider trying one in a shavette? I'm curious to see if your experience using it as an open blade would be better. I would expect that to be the case.

Thanks for your comments on the Wheat State vs. Soap Commander. If it were mine, I'd relegate the Wheat State puck to shower or pre-shave facial cleansing duty. Like you, I give the Soap Commander high marks for a non-tallow soap.

I hope your job situation gets better soon!

Great set up and striking photo, Clint. The 47 SS is a classy addition to your Den, and your Soap Destroyer is a beauty. Don't work too hard today, and have fun with Mom.

The rotation of Techs continues. Not alot of variation in them but I will say that I do think there is something to the widely held belief that the prewar Canadian is slightly more effective. I haven't noticed any difference at all between the NDC ball end or Fat Handle versions and really not that much (if any) between those and the U.S. prewars. I'll be using a British '46-'50 ball end and one of those later Zamac topcap types (also British) in the next few shaves and I'll see if I can detect any differences there as well. If memory serves, the Zamac has the aluminum spiral/plaid ball end handle and is a little milder. We'll see.

No offense, Randy, but don't send your brush to him, @clint64. Randy was trained in the AAMCO repair shop.

Maybe dipping the blade in kerosene and lighting it on fire would help too. You know, cauterize the wounds as you make them kinda thing.

What’s your point, Charlie? The 15 year wait ensures that we take our time to do it right. As for the monkeys, they’re there to impact test the brushes for quality control. Sure, every now and then one doesn’t pass the test and we have to work another 15 years on it but what are the odds that that would happen with Clint’s brush?

I had post-war ball ends from both the US and Canada. They were exactly the same. I agree, the prewar Canadian is slightly different. @John Ruschmeyer is our resident Techaholic, and can answer most all questions about Techs.

Joseph, the Goldedge is a beauty. I also notice that my open blade shaves are often better/more satisfying on two days of growth. And to your Bride's point...

Truly an awesome Rick Pic! Interesting to see a 2nd, different soap used as a preshave. Is that because of the glycerine base?
Sounds like a great start to the day, Joe. “May no C shaves come your way”...
Have fun with the tryouts today, Perry. Make sure to take time for your family as well, not always an easy thing to do with your job!
Great write up, Charlie. Love the Proraso Green/CO Bigelow. One of our local drugstores here carries Proraso Green and Proraso White in tubes and tubs. It is the only product I don’t have to order in unless I see something at the Winners (like your Ross’s or TJ Maxx).
Another winner in your signature style, Jim. Have a great weekend.
Enjoy the family festivities, Doug! Great outdoor shot as always.
Simply stunning. I pif’ed my ‘54 40s style and maybe I shouldn’t have moved such an iconic razor on. I just didn’t find much difference between it and my other similar Gillette TTOs like the British ‘crat Jr or Flare Tip. Great, mild, easy shaver, though.
The razor and brush are stunners, Joseph. I usually only shave once on the weekend, meaning I have one shave a week where I mow down two days growth. They are often the best shaves for me as well, with the best face feel afterwards.
    High praise, indeed.
Yup, agreed. A ‘meh’ soap and scent? Into the shower, or into the circular file.

Thank you, Jason! Balancing work and family is sometimes challenging with this job. My wife is very understanding, thank goodness, but I try my best to leave work at work and be a dad and husband when at home. Can be difficult, but I try. Wilson has been sick since early yesterday morning (stomach bug type of symptoms) so Alice has been a little frazzled.
