    March Madness!!

    March 9

    Razor - Schick Krona
    Blade - zae-blade.jpg (1)
    Soap - Proraso Red (Sandalwood)
Brush - Stirling 24mm Finest Badger Fan Knot
    Post - Alum

Let's put the Zorrik to bed for a bit before bringing it back in a shavette at some point and move on to the Zae blade. Surely Japanese steel, even if not from the "big two", will perform better. Of course, I had to challenge it with the mildest of the mild, the Schick Krona. The Krona comes in at the second smallest blade gap of only .021". For the curious, the smallest gap is on the Merkur Progress on setting 1 which is an amazingly small .015". For the Gillette fans, the Krona is slightly smaller gapped than the Gillette Tech, which comes in at .022". Yeah, they're that close. The head geometry is a bit different so the Krona, to me at least, feels a lot milder than the Tech and requires a more precise angle to do the job. Assuming the Zae blade is Japanese sharp this should be a good pairing. I've never used the Zae before but I'm assuming. Proraso Red and the Stirling badger for lather.

So did I assume correctly with this blade? Yes and no. It's sharp, but not Feather or Kai sharp. Still it's definitely smoother than the Zorrik, though not Feather or Kai smooth. I made three full passes with the razor and did end up with a very nice DFS as a result. I had to work to get enough lather for the third pass as I clearly under-loaded the brush. I need to slow down and remember a badger is not a synthetic. Give it some time to get the soap into the brush.

Not a bad shave overall and certainly better than the past two. Now.....will the Zae last three shaves? That's yet to come.

Don't forget to set your clocks ahead tonight! Of course, in computer and phone lands, that happens automatically. I got the dining room clock and the appliance clocks all reset so it should be good to go in the morning. Have a great Sunday!

    MAIL CALL!!!

I was going through my gear for March, separating out "aggressive" from "mild" razors, and it occurred to me, once again, that I am lacking one particular style razor in my den. I have the adjustables, I have the Gillette vintage NEW, Super Speed, Aristocrat and such as well as a few other odds and ends. But.....I've never acquired a slant razor. I've seen them used since day one around here and was always curious, yet never stopped to check one out. Well, that's an oversight that needed correcting. And so, let me introduce you to the newest razor in my den.

Isn't she an absolutely stunning beauty? That is a fairly nice leather case indeed. And how about that razor inside, eh? Oh, wait - you want to see it too? Ok, have it your way.

Say hello to the Wunderbar from RazoRock/Italian Barber. Yes, not only did I finally buy a slant, I bought a Stainless Steel razor. The handle is also stainless with the deep knurl in it. They had a titanium option but were temporarily sold out plus I didn't like the style of that handle as much. Staying stainless top to bottom seemed more my style and I love the look and feel of the handle. As for the head?

This thing looks pretty wicked and I'm eager to give it a go. Expect me to break out of the Mild March Madness long enough to give this thing a try in the next few days. If it shaves as good as it looks and feels I'll be on cloud nine. A slightly slanted cloud nine, but cloud nine nonetheless.

Pretty looking thing. I was gifted a PAA slant...I think it is. picked up a merkur slant the other day in a mixed ebay lot. They are fun 2 sided thingies.

Today’s shave occurred in Awesometown! I decided on a DE shave today, and for some reason felt led to go back to my roots with the slim. After moving mostly to the fat boy for my DE shaves, I’d forgotten what a race car this bad boy is. Cranked the dial down to seven to avoid any weeper mishaps while driving fast. For some reason, despite not being a synth kind of guy, I decided on a razorock silver tip synth knot this morning; probably because the awesome handle my dad made clearly belongs in Awesometown. Followed up with my new favorite CL sent, Fourth and Pine. It probably goes without saying, but things are particularly awesome in Awesometown today!
