Concur! I doubt that I could distinguish brands simply by shaving with a shavette. It's also possible that DE blades lack as much variance between brands as we believe. All blades are a test for newbies, and most blade reviews are written by people who are recent converts to DE. I surmise this drags down perception of many commonly available blades, blades that a more experienced user would find acceptable.

Just an outstanding shave today with vintage Colgate cup soap. There is a video as well. This G4 is new to me but was the normal G effective. There is no hoodoo...vooodooo or blooming needed to lather a great vintage soap like this.

SAS are sometimes necessary in life. Your situation warrants it, Jim. An astute shaver realizes when it is appropriate to go all the way for BBS or not.

Rushed shave today so only one bad picture today.

Round 1, Match 2: Noble Otter - The Noir et Vanille vs Central Texas Soaps - Mr. Pepper.

Shave 2: Central Texas Soaps - Mr. Pepper

    The Setup:
    Razor: Merkur 34C
    Blade: Feather Stainless
    Brush: Perfecto Pure Badger
    Mug: Henry Cavendish
Post Shave: Witch Hazel and Cetaphil

I needed a good quick shave this morning and CTS delivered. I had no trouble lathering. The soap provided good slickness and cushion. The soap could have been slicker as I know I didn't add enough water. My skin felt really slick when I rinsed my face though. It was a good shave on a rushed Sunday morning.

WTG and XTG for a DFS.

Central Texas Soaps - Mr. Pepper
    Slickness: 7 (needed more water)
    Ease of Lather: 8
    Post shave feel: 8
    Scent strength: Light

Are you guys tired of reading about my foibles yet? It's clear that the only thing holding either of these soaps back is me. The smell and slickness of Noble Otter were excellent. Wish I could have dialed in the lather better. The ease of use and overall quality of Central Texas Soaps helped me get the job done with no drama.

Central Texas Soaps - Mr. Pepper is the winner of this matchup!

Next is Barrister and Mann - Cool vs Ballenclaugh - Old Barber Menthe.

So many people need prayers and help. Pray for someone tonight. Help someone this week. Have a good night all.

Haven't been able to get images and post like the most of you do! Geez....y'all generate a lot of reading...still lurking and learning rather than posting.

Switched around a few of things the past few days (mostly software). And while I know that's not the point of a 30 day commitment...my 'focus' so far seems to bear out, at least for me, that blade choice makes more difference than the soap/cream, brush or razor. Some manufacturers' blades are tuggy, burn, or irritate more than others. I seem to be able to use a couple manufacturers blades and never have an issue, no matter which razor, Gillette, Parker, or Merkur. I also appear to like things (razors) a bit more than mild. I like the FB and Slim on setting 9 the most, and enjoy the OC Merkur 15c.

Thinking through my past 68 days of wet shaving experience....and reading....chose a new razor. A Blackland Dart ordered, and on the way soon.

Lastly...best wishes for the surgery coming up tomorrow for Clint64's family!

I agree. I gave up on BBS a long time ago. I am decent enough with most of my razors to get a darn fine shave one two passes just about every time. This keeps the irritation pretty much nil but still feels good. Every now and then, I get decent enough results after one pass and let it be.
