    That right there is funny.

Well my long weekend turned out to be late starting. Called in tonight on short notice. My plan to root out all the blooming post will be postponed.

On a brighter note I shaved with a new to me Merkur 37c slant the other day. I don't think I posted about it here. I know some here like the slant. I still say it is gimmicky...but a good shave for a two side thingie.

Well, your shot of Declan doing "happy baby" reminds me of my Dad's shot of our Golden Retriever(I was a teenager then). Mickey(his name)was just getting his mouth open for a bark as Dad got off the shot. Incredible photo. But you see what I'm saying-maybe Declan was just about to begin his giggle :).

    March Madness!!

    March 15

    Razor - Parker SRX Shavette
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Soap Commander Courage
    Brush - Semogue 620
    Post - Alum

Okie dokie. Here comes shave two on the Zorrik SS in a shavette. Two changes tonight - the razor and the brush. Everything else stays the same. I do like the feel of the Parker razor. Quite solid and it's nice and shiny too. I give up the covered corners of the Luxor Pro but as long as I remember which I have in my hand I should be in good shape. The Semogue boar made lather just as easily as the Omega boar. I feel like the Soap Commander is trying to seduce me away from some favorites.

I'm working under the theory that one shavette shaves pretty much like another, with only minor differences such as covered corners etc. Sure, each has its own weight/balance as well but it's not as big a difference as two DE heads can provide between two manufacturers. Therefore, fair test. So, the first pass I tried to keep the angle shallow to see how the blade responded. The Zorrik increased drag considerably between shaves 1 and 2 on a DE. Since it was a mild razor, I tried to keep a mild angle both last night and tonight. I did find myself opening up the angle a bit more tonight than last night, but not by much. And it was more for effectiveness than comfort. The Zorrik is a mid-sharp blade to me and that little extra angle helps.

Three passes and the alum is quiet as it was last night. A couple of hot points around my goatee. Normal for me with an open blade shave. My conclusion? I think the theory that shavettes make blades perform up to par is alive and well. Tomorrow night we'll feed it to the Magic for its last run.

    Happy weekend!!

Bear with me while I make an analogy. As one who keeps snakes, and have for years, there is a truism we tell all new snake keepers. It's not IF you get bit, it's WHEN! I believe the same goes for straight razors. Your WHEN arrived. Welcome to the official brotherhood. Hopefully it heals quickly!

Yep, it's still an official event. We're in that "quiet period" that apparently will accompany every one of these things. I'll break the silence earlier than last year, so info will be arriving shortly. I saw the conversation with @wristwatchb and yes, definitely the three of us. However, I would expect several more just based on conversation I've had. Last year we ended up with 10. I'd like to get more here this year but it will be up to schedules etc., and I know that. I will go ahead and throw this out there for everyone's information.........

At last contact, Rod from Stirling is planning on attending as well as Lynn Abrams. Yeah, so I'm adding some "celebrity pull" to the thing this year. We are also talking to Rod about a Stirling soap for our LE soap this year and.......also we have one of our own resident craftsmen from the 30DC........one @jtspartan.......working on an LE brush idea for the meet up as well.

Now, having said all of that, if anyone here knows for certain they will be here - PLEASE RSVP! The more definite the number I have the easier it is for me to try and find the bargains for food, lodging etc.

That's a distinct possibility. The seller didn't name the maker of the handles, just made by an artisan in Sicily. And Pantarei is in Sicily.

One of the things I believe prevents me from injuries using an open blade is, NO VISITORS. He like everyone here can take my word for it.

Hope to never have an injury that alum or styptic won't cure. Photo for bragging rights? Hmmmm?

Sorry to hear about that injury. Don't know how I missed it. Speedy recovery wishes.

    Shouldn't affect vocal chords though

When I want to test the sharpness of razor I tree some hairs, good to know your blade was surgically sharp. I hope you heal up quickly Joseph.

My official RSVP. I liked the location last year and staying at the casino (perfect for my jet lag).

    From Today.....

Trumpers Lime Skin Food - Used as a pre-shave today, just a dab. I'll always have this. Does wonders for the skin without a greasy feel. Nice on winter cracked hands.

Mug Soap - Well I've been guilty of saying foolish things about mug soaps like 'mugs are for coffee'. So I repented and went out and got me some mug soap to prove I have an open mind. Used my Stirling badger to whip up my some of the most light puffy lather ever. No animal fats, surprised me. Max Headroom formally declares approval of 'Mug Soap'.

Dovo 'en vogue' - I liked my first time out with this so much yesterday I figured the sequel was in order. Flipped it over so you can get a good look at the laser engraving. Probably not good if you struggle with vertigo. This is a solid heavy razor. Delivered probably the best open edge shave to date. Did I say, this is a nice heavy razor? I think this was as good of a straight shave result I've ever had.

Lucky Tiger Face Tonic - I forgot who it was, but someone here at TSD recommended this. Gentle orange scent that just plain feels nice on the face. Often used when I need to keep moving along.

Pinaud Clubman - After the comments at work yesterday about smelling like a French Brothel, it was the barbershop standard Pinaud Clubman up for the call. Probably could've went Stirling Baker Street too, but sure avoided any of that ribbing I got before.

This is Max Headroom reporting, and reminding you to exercise the liberty of the Uninhibited Shave and ignore those folks telling you 'mugs are for coffee'. Get you some Mug Soap today, I got mine.

Actually, Grooming Dept. soaps pop up quite often in the BSTs. In some cases, the scents might not agree with the original purchaser. In other cases, I think many people get multiple tubs of the same scent knowing it may never be released again - then end up selling the "backup" tub. I don't know much about Mohammad. He makes great soaps. I'm pretty certain he has a regular gig, and the soaps are something he does as a hobby - hence the sparse releases and short supply.

How true. TTT all the way. Open blades are the ultimate technique enforcer.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about the cut, Joseph. At least you cut yourself with a nice looking razor, if that's any consolation.
So...um....did your wife mention that maybe that razor should be put up for sale? :D

Don't feel too bad. I did basically the same thing awhile back with the Parker SRX. Not so bad that a small Band Aid didn't take care of it, fortunately. So far, it was the worst cut with an open blade for me. Hopefully that "record" stands indefinitely.
