March 22 Good evening guys! I just received my 1961 Fatboy razor that I won from the TSD raffle. I have to say it is in very good condition. I couldn't wait to use it so I decided to just shave my head because I want to continue my vintage square point straight focus for shaving my face. I placed a new Merkur blade that I received with my Dovo shavette last October. I was able to get a nice smooth headshave, but it took me 4 passes with touchups, instead of the usual 3 with touchups. With my Gillette slim or my Rockwell, I only need 3 passes, albeit I use a Rockwell or VDH blades. I know that it isn't the razor, and it has to be the Merkur blade. I probably got sent a subpar blade. When I used a Merkur blade in my Dovo shavette, the blade was sharp. Anyway, I got a nice BBS headshave. Applied witchhazel and then used the free sample of Stirling Barbershop balm that was included in my first order. I have to say that it has a pleasant scent. Finally, I bought a NOS 1959 Gillette Fatboy with the plastic case and the original blades. I should get it sometime next week and will post a pic. Ok, tomorrow will be my normal face shave and will be bringing out my Wosty 5/8 square point to begin the last week of March.
Congrats on the new razors, Joe! I'm anxious to see your NOS Fatboy! Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
Welcome to The 30 Day Crew! You'll be amazed at your progress over the next month. Let us know how we can help you. Everyone except one or two guys here gives good advice.
Thanks Charlie. I never would ever think of owning one, but with the raffle win and getting one off Ebay really is nice for my collection.
Joseph, I understand that the barber's notch helped the barber grab the razor from his pocket so he wouldn't cut himself. I also heard that it gave him a sure and steady feel when he was doing fine detail work. As for the non-barbers like us, it is purely decorative and frankly, makes the razor look cool.
