Razor - Van der Hagen (Weishi)
    Blade - [IMG] (1)
    Soap - Proraso Green
    Brush - Omega Pro 48
    Post - Alum

A bit of a return to my shaving roots tonight. My first DE razor, the Van der Hagen DE, otherwise known as the Weishi, along with the first soap I bought (other than VDH) and my first "real" brush, the enormous Omega Pro 48. I used this setup for a couple of weeks until I got my Aristocrat, then my Edwin Jagger back in the day. The only difference is the blade. Since I'm not using Russian this month I subbed in an Asco Super Stainless. We'll see how this one does for three days. It's from Lord in Egypt, maker of the Big Ben that didn't do so well a couple of weeks ago.

This is a super mild razor but should be fun to run again. The big Omega brush makes lathering the Proraso both maddening and wonderful. Maddening because loading from the small Proraso tub is a challenge, but once loaded it produces bathtubs full of lather. Three passes and the baby has gone to bed and I'm irritation free and a happy camper. The blade seemed to like the mild gap on the VDH razor and they worked together to produce a very fine shave. We'll see if it holds up two more days.

Hope your week got off to a great start. Here's to a happy and productive Tuesday!

  9. Monday SOTN

Thanks @Hannah's Dad for a great deal... I took a break from the Feather Artist Club razors and pulled out the razor he sent me. Tonight was the maiden shave of a British Flat Bottom New with studs. TBH, felt very smooth, but seemed to be more efficient than my other American New's. I need more experience, but I'm liking it so far. The Tabac did its usual job with slickness. No significant burn with the alum, no weepers whatsoever. My face feels slick and refreshed. I can't wait for the next shave.

Update on my Mom. She was able to go home Sunday after around 5 days in the hospital. At first they thought it was congestive heart problems and gave her meds to get water out of her body, then they realized that the fluid in her lungs was a viral pneumonia and they shot her full of cortico steroids to calm the inflammation in her lungs. She is having to use oxygen while she sleeps until her lungs clear. I feared the worst when my Dad told me fluid in her lungs was from her heart, which fortunately turned out not to be the case. She's had a heart problem for around 8 years now that has gotten progressively worse. I spend more time with them now and me and my brother call them for a 'family chat' every Friday night for several hours. I guess I saw some people on here share their family health situations and it seemed to help me begin to face that my Mom's health issues and age and time with us being limited is a reality. I put off thinking about it until now that she has had increased episodes and hospital visits in the last year (3 times in 7 months). I'm just glad she's got a good shot to recover and live longer.
