50 straight shaves is the number.
My chin looks like it went through a meat-grinder (Fleischwolf, lieber Jeff @Yehuda D ) :D

Ok, maybe I am exaggerating. Or, maybe I'm not. :signs002:
I took the Boker back to the 4/8/12 progression yesterday.
I spent some extra time with the Naniwa 12K, really looking for (feeling) a slippery, smooth lap.
I got it. Loupe confirmed a very shiny and even edge.

50ish laps on the Savin and I am ready for another go today.
I get to the chin and it is tugging like...
    :angry021:
What the heck!! Am I that inept at honing???
So, I decide to grab a razor that I KNOW has a great edge, my Dovo 91.
And guess what? Yup, it's tugging around the chin.
Conclusion...I have no idea (yet) how to properly shave my doggone chin. :angry019:
I decided to grate and use my new tin of WSO Zaro. I was trying to sell it, but

it didn't sell and I thought, it's a sign that I should simply use it.
This discontinued soap base is stellar. Top 5% of any soap I have EVER used.
Scent...it's supposed to be a fougère, and I get a little---good, but not great.
My favorite of the WSO was the "Signature". Now THAT was a soap...
Completed the shave without losing any necessary body parts, nor exsanguination.
    The Alum raised its voice...
Even the Old Spice Herbal (remember the Old Spice Thread :signs002:,
    that vanished from the scene
    quickly, did it not?)
Was a bit stingy as well.
Good news is that I can hone a blade. :) That's something, anyway.

Advantages? Not sure, Fuzzy. I got one to try, and really liked it. The flattop needs to be able to splay easily to do what it is intended to do. Fantastic with painting strokes actually. Got a few more in larger sizes- including a tuxedo. I find the tuxedo flattop too stiff, fwiw.

There is one, true, and complete method for the question of shaving your chin. Grow the goatee back. I've had mine for 15 years and I have never, not even once, nicked my chin while shaving. :innocent

Try changing the angle of the blade, depending upon the pass and where I’m shaving I use different angles. You may just need to take a steeper angle to cut the top for tough hair.

Well, let's discuss the terminology and Cartel principles. "Officially", the "Official Rule" is not inflexible. Obviously when it first began the idea was 30 consecutive shaves, as its creator (G.D. Carrington) assumed daily shaving. The purpose of the Rule is to learn technique and cement it into place. For newbies who have never handled a traditional razor and gear, 30 actual shaves is probably the recommended procedure. The more shaves the more muscle memory and therefore solid technique is built. For the "old timers" it's recommended if learning new razor types as well, even to go out to 100 shaves for learning straights. Once someone is experienced, though, I believe flexibility is its strength.

In other words - do you feel like you will have the gear sufficiently mastered by the end of the 30 days to be able to pick it up in the future and get an excellent shave? Or, do you feel like additional shaves would improve areas you may still be having issues with? I've seen people do it both ways. And as long as they are getting the results they were seeking then they completed the Rule successfully.

So '"Officially " the correct answer to my "either/or" question choosing Option A (a month of shaving) or Option B (30 consecutive shaves) is ... "Yes"...

I should have known of course that there wasn't going to be a cut-and-dried black-and-white answer here...

Round 2, Match 2: Barrister and Mann - Cool vs Captain's Choice - Venture

    Shave 2: Captain's Choice - Venture

    The Setup:
    Razor: Merkur 34C
    Blade: Feather Stainless
    Brush: Perfecto Pure Badger
    Mug: Henry Cavendish
Post Shave: Witch Hazel and Cetaphil

CC provided another great shave. It lathered easily, was slick, and provided decent post shave feel. On the 2nd pass I started to feel some burning on my skin. I hope that is due to being in the sun the day before.

WTG and XTG and a couple touchup passes for a DFS.

I have gone back and forth about which soap wins this matchup. B&M was really slick and I got great results. However the Reserve is a soap that requires some special knowledge to get right. CC was slick and easy to lather, but the irritation looms in the back of my mind. This one comes down to ease of lather. B&M isn't better enough in the slickness category to make up for its difficulty lathering. The winner of this matchup is Captain's Choice!

The Finals: STIRLING VS CAPTAIN'S CHOICE

I hope everyone has a great day!
