I thought I was going to be big man on the campus today and get my weekend shavette shave in today. I brought out the Weck junior and some lovely Stirling products and proceeded. All was well till the second pass on the right check as evident by the bottom photograph. Y'all know that feeling of the cut and I knew I had messed up. We have a saying in the south that applies to this. I bleed like a stuck hog. I manned through it and finished the shave and spent what seemed like 15 minutes to get the bleeding to stop. This would have been a great shave except for my mess up. Oh well, live and learn and I am thankful I did not cut anything off. :happy088: Y'all have a great weekend.

True that. You know you're in trouble when something makes Gem-style box cutter blades look good.

My favorite bad blade story- Prior to MayHEM a couple of years ago, I was in a local beauty supply store and noticed that they had Gem-style SE blades from China. I bought a pack of 5 and set out for an epic MayHEM shave. The first pass was the smoothest feel that I had ever had with a Gem razor. At the end of the pass, however, I noticed zero reduction which was due to the fact that the blades had not been honed at all!

I can only assume that they were some special blade intended for stylists to safely cut lines of cocaine. :)

Razor: Gillette English Flat Bottom Tech
    Blade: Astra SP (1st use)
    Brush: Bluebeard Doubloon
    Soap: TOBS Peppermint
    Post: Dior Sauvage

I tried something a little bit different today. I decided to be more dynamic with my left hand - that is more active in my skin stretching. I always stretch the skin, but usually hold the same stretch for each quadrant of my face.

The more dynamic stretching involved following the razor around (usually an inch or so behind) and keeping the skin really taut. In order to make this work, I had to reduce the length of my razor strokes to around an inch or so... I usually did 2/3 passes over the same spot.

I was rewarded with a ridiculously close shave. I chased, and caught, the baby at the cost of some irritation.

This method is definitely something that I am going to continue to work with... I'll need to remain disciplined with my pressure and my tendency to chase a better shave![IMG]

So true but when you have toys in the sandbox you want to play with all of them.

    NCoxSTL AAACK!

I was about to ask @Keithmax earlier what the point of a blade for seamstresses is if the edge is incapable of cutting most anything. NOW I get it.

Thanks Clint and I know you mean the first picture. I have been real fortunate with shavettes and that was my first cut that brought blood.
