For a long time, I had been keeping my straights in an old cigar box. Just laying there loose. It was always in the back of my head that I wanted to give them sonething a little more elegant. A few weeks back, I was in Dollar Tree, and I had a flash of inspiration: The outer clip of these looked to be the perfect size. So I grabbed three bags of them, and a sheet of thick red felt from Hobby Lobby. First, the clips wrapped more than 180° around the rollers. So I cut one section from the side. Three clips was also a bit too long, so one in three I cut a little short. I laid them out on paper against a straight edge, and glued them together into a frame. No pic, but it dawned on me that the ridges in the middle were twice as wide as the two ends. So I grabbed some of the sections that I cut off earlier and glued them against the ends to make the widths consistent. Next comes the felt. I used 3m Super77 spray adhesive. I worked one section at a time, covered the rest with paper while spraying. Press the felt into the slot. Then, the handle of an old ball joint separator was the perfect size and heft to hold the felt while the glue set. For the sides of the box, I cut the remaining felt into four pieces. Folded each in half lengthwise and glued them that way. Trimmed them to length, and glued them to the inside of the box. One last thing to work out. The box is twice as tall as my tray, so I would like to raise the tray up. Dollar Tree to the rescue again! I cut a piece of foam kneeling pad and glued to the bottom of the box. That brings the tray up to just below the top of the felt on the sides. Perfect! Voila! My straights now have a place to call home with some dignity. And a little room to grow the family. I haven't decided yet, but I'll probably grab another sheet of felt for the inside of the lid. And a clip to hold the VCI tab.
An ingenious solution! Always love it when a solution is arrived at with cheap repurposed items. We're going to have to start calling you McGiver!
Great job...love it...the red looks fantastic..I might have gone for blue, but seeing this Red was the right choice.
If I had straights, I'd commission one from you. Seriously...you should make and sell them on esty or something. Great work!
Well! I usually go with the traditional stand for my safety razor, the one can pack the brush and the razor itself! it looks good also!
Thank you. Sell them? Hmmmm. I guess that would come down to how much time it takes to make one. I really didn't keep track of that at all. It was pretty spread out.
