Awesome for now, while using it I felt something lose and it was the handle this time and had to do a small repair after shaving to the one end were they press it into the barrel of the handle on the threaded end. Pulled the threaded plug out and cleaned it with some emery and Loctite it back in with some 609 with Loctite primer and that baby is never coming lose again. Loctite is a great adhesive used in all kinds of industrial applications.

For some unknown reason I missed out the 1914 from my last ER/Gem rotation. Though I like longer handles, I use this one as it came as it is in good condition rather than user grade. I need one of the latter to try out a longer handle.

This particular 1914 has 12 teeth, side retaining clips and most importantly nice large blade retainers, and I believe it may have been one of the last versions of the 1914 produced. I find that despite its short handle I adapt to using it , and it Shaves very smoothly and permits the use of short precision strokes to get an ultra close finish. In fact I reckon this version of the 1914 delivers as good a Shave as the likes of the Streamline or 1924, especially as many reckon that those two are too aggressive.

I have made a decision regarding my efforts for the rest of the month. I will be, of course, utilising my new Fatip Grande (arrives today) and using up my TOBS Peppermint. I will also be seeing how many shaves I can get from a Feather blade. I have 4 left, and I would like them to last me the entire month.

I will be photographing and logging my inventory. I will then be storing my other razors (potentially with a view to selling some) in order to preserve my efforts towards a minimal/frugal shaving style. Next month I would like to pair my Palmolive with a cheap Wilkinson 'bristle' brush and a supermarket/pharmacy splash.

    Razor: Schick I1
    Brush: JR #142 badger
    Soap: C.O. Bigelow

    Tabac Shaving Soap
    Jayaruh #340 Badger
    Dad's Schick E3
    Personna Injector
    CWR
    Tabac AS

My prep was just a cold water rinse. The Tabac Shaving Soap face lathered well with Jayaruh #340 Badger brush. I did two passes with Dad's Schick E3 razor with a Personna Injector blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Tabac AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

    Blade: Feather Pro
Brush Handle: B-400 The Brush by Tom/ WildWest Brushworks
    Knot: APShaveCo Tuxedo/ Boss
Soap: Saponificio Varesino Felce Aromatica / Route 66 Twisted Tweed
Post Care: Stirling Unscented Witch Hazel, Alum
    Aftershave: Saponificio Varesino Felce Aromatica

I'm starting to thin out my den so I'm trying something different. I have 2 soaps with similar scents so I'm trying to decide between the 2 on which to keep. I used the SV and B-400 on my left side and the Route 66 and WildWest on my right. I prefer the scent of the Route 66 barely over the SV but it's close. Both easily lathered up however the SV produced a more stable lather; the Route 66 was thinner and bubbly while the SV was thick and creamy. Both offered good protection, glide and had enough residual slickness to allow for buffering. The alum was the deciding factor. It was completely silent on the SV side but there was a slight burn on the Route 66 side. In the fairness of science I'm going to repeat this shave but change sides and brushes before I make the final decision however this round goes to Saponificio Varesino. Have a great day folks!

    RazoRock Syn. 22mm
    Williams Mug Soap
    Starling V2 / Windrose Handle
    Gem S/S [ 4 ]
    Williams Aqua Velva A/S Lotion

After using a 1914 yesterday the Starling feels rather like using an 1924. Am quite aware of the blade feel but it is not efficient as a 1924, so Shave time seems quite long. The quality of the finished Shave is very similar to those I get from a HFT, i.e. OK but not brilliant. Have not yet tried it as an open comb, but so far does not offer much of a challenge to most of my Vintage SEs.
