    Arko Adjustable April

    April 3

    Razor - 1960 (F4) Gillette Toggle (9)
    Blade - [IMG] (3)
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - Jayaruh #46
    Post - Alum

Third day on the Toggle and Voskhod and the only change was to go to the JR46 brush. I decided to forge ahead with the Arko, as it's Arko April, even though it would be totally appropriate to switch to Williams Wednesday. I haven't decided if I'll make all 30 shaves with Arko but I'm off to a great start. Three passes as I took my time and enjoyed the process tonight. A BBS was the pay off and quiet alum was a bonus. Nothing but good things to say for the shaves so far this month.

Tomorrow I'll switch to a different adjustable. Not sure which one yet. I may just close my eyes and grab one out of the rack. Enjoy your Thursday!

    Stirling Glastonbury SS sample
    B-400 by @twhite, Omega 98 knot
    Suribachi bowl and cool water
'59 Gillette Fat Boy & GSB blade
    Osage Rub, Stirling Glastonbury AS
SOTD 04032019.gif I got to thinking about the menthol options when I ordered some aftershave. Stirling offers none, some, or much and I went with none. That so distracted me that Williams Wednesday didn't happen. Having gotten a lather off the new puck and confirming it's the same or close enough to the couple year old sample I screwed down the cap of the tub and used the huge sample sent by Jared @PickledNorthern. It's living in an OS mug with a Betty Crocker cake icing lid. To avoid clacking the aluminum handle more than necessary I prehydrated the soap while the brush soaked in cool water. Good load of soap, went to the bowl and agitated to just shy of glossy wet lather. That let me dribble water into the knot to release the lather in a half way face lathering style. Three and a half passes with the Fat Boy on nine using a Gillette Silver Blue of unknown uses and finished with no errors. Only a little baby chasing would have gotten that last tiny bit on my lower neck. In an attempt to replicate the feel of the mentholated Stirling option some or much, I splashed on a full dose of Osage Rub and quickly followed it with the Glastonbury. Just might order it cooled next time.
    Good Shaves Y'all!

It's ok. We have rules. And we break rules. We also have suggestions. We ignore suggestions. And, finally, we have focuses. That totally lack focus. I'd say we're doing just fine.

    Great shave, Rick!

For soaps, I find a good menthol approach is to use M-Bomb by dripping a bit in a lather bowl or else on the already-loaded brush before face lathering. I can have a menthol shave anytime while leaving the basic soap unmentholated for normal use. Might be able to do the same with AS by putting a drop of M-Bomb into a palmful before rubbing it on...

A photo dated 1/08/2016 (Edit; mistakenly typed wrong year) from when I picked up this bottle.
    Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve.gif
It was sold in beer bottle brown plastic and had the juice decanted into an vintage non-Pinaud bottle shortly after. Unfortunately I was playing with effects and filters on my SOTD pictures so it wasn't until six months later I saved this more or less true color photo.
    SOTD 07082016.gif
Definitely got the green color there. It may have been stored on a shelf in the open, but never exposed to extended direct sun light.

Wednesday evening April 3 - Rule shave #21

Delta Echo refurbished Gillette Fatboy on 4 / Rapira Swedish Supersteel (2)
Simpsons CH2 Chubby Synthetic Bristles brush
    MWF/Kent in beechwood tub
Alum and Polar Ice Booster splash

I usually do my face first sort of diagonally WTG, then do my neck going ATG. Today, I did my neck first, absentmindedly started to extend the South-North ATG stroke up my cheeks, then decided to continue that intentionally. For my first pass, I therefore went ATG on my neck and cheeks, then WTG as usual on my goatee and moustache areas. I then completed the shave with my usual XTG pass everywhere.

The alum was a bit warm on my cheeks tonight, which it usually isn't, but nothing too dreadful. No difference in the end shave result -- certainly no improvement to convince me it was better than my usual shaving pattern. So it will be back to first pass diagonally WTG on the face tomorrow.

Out of interest I checked the clock before I went into the bathroom to shave tonight. Doing a daily shave on limited stubble with this preselected Rule gear that I now grab and "just shave" with, I was out again in about five minutes... Having to pick and choose gear will add some time, and if I am mowing a multi-day stubble, then I will spend several minutes on a hot water prep to soften the beard first. In general, though, my sense is that is about an average length of time for my safety razor shaves now.

i spend more time planning the products these days.. my shave routine now is definitely shorter than in the early days. being a daily shaver ish, less prep is needed as well with the proraso preshave, not that i am trying to cut corners but less is needed with the same great results.no ill effects or dry skin..i still do a longer shave in the evenings because i plan and post here, part of my ritual, but morning shaves when they happen are quick and easy..couldn't say that a year ago..

I'm guessing that's not a dashboard mod for the G550. It would fit in nice for the passenger cabin.
