  1. SE razors are even easier to learn since mostly the angle of the head leads to a great shaving angle.

As far as aggressive or mild I use to think mild was best. Now I think mid aggressive is good. The Micromatic clog pruf is a great example of this.
  2. Very sorry to hear of that unfortunate loss. My prayers are with them.
  3. Well you knew that was on its way.
  4. Continuing my April focus with the Ultimate Adjustable Focus R21. (In the family of plastic doodad razors for those 'in the know'.)

For today I went ahead and did an ARKOver to the Island Mahn. GSB on 4.

Island Man whipped up easy with the syn tux, then I watered it 'just over to the sloshy side' in my shaving soap bowl that one would look quite ridiculous eating soup outta.

I'm thinking 4 shaves is good to call it quits on this blade, it could go more, but that is not what I'm after with a shavette. Much like that perfect golf shot that draws you back, the effortless feel of a new blade in a shavette is almost intoxicating. I resisted the urge to dial up my aggression for blade wear and adjusted with extra passes. Results were the same, but 4 gentle passes instead of 3 when new. I'll be changing blade type as I move forward but 4 shaves on the GSB is good for me.

Finished up with the Stirling Island Man A/S. What a delightful scent. It is only made in the spring and summer, but I use it year round.

    Happy Shaves. Max Headroom Reporting.

  7. So sorry to hear of your loss. The world sounds like it is now a much poorer place for her passing. It sounds like you are remembering her for some amazing reasons!

  8. Looking at the state of my face and neck this morning, I'm thinking that there might be something to this open comb lark. Shaves have felt comfortable and the lather (built as usual) has felt like it offers more protection. Could it be something to do with the teeth letting the lather stay on the skin until the blade removes it with the hair? Whatever it is, the Grande seems to be agreeing with me!

I'm not sure I'm a fan of the comparitive roughness of Feathers, and the Gillette Yellows arrived yesterday, so I'll be bringing that on deck for tomorrow's shave. The rest of the hardware and software will remain consistent!

After that blade I will be using a Polsilver followed by an Astra SP (my best known quantity)!

I will also be buying a blade sampler pack and conducted plenty of blade reviews and recording my findings! This should be a much cheaper way of trying new stuff and should still count as 'frugal'

  9. Sounds reasonable. PSO clashes with lather...
  10. And gunks up your sink... All the hairs stick to it!

  11. If you like open comb razors grab a vintage model. A single ring is a favorite DE. The micromatic is about the best OC around though.

  20. Good Morning,
    Great shaves fellas!

    Last nights shave was great.
    Gillette pure cream
    Black beauty
    Parker blade
    Vdh brush
Alum poraso white after shave balm
2 passes on the face for a dfs
1 pass on the crome dome to bring back the shine.
Alum was almost quiet, just a little sting around my van dike.
Question for the fellow head shavers, what post shave stuff do you use on you head?
