I've been using US personnas from walmart all month and not a totally terrible blade. I don't know what the deal is with these can lids i got from Walgreens.
Ok, back in action. Wife had a friend over for a couple drinks and I got stuck drinking with them. Dom to answer your question the Shavemac is softer than the QED but the QED is not scratchy by any means. And that is with the SM being a Super and the QED being a best. I am kind of tired of the shavemac though. Since I have owned the brush it has lost probably 40-50 hairs. Some say no big deal but I say bs. I paid good money for this brush. My QED was half the price and it has lost a total of 3-5 hair. End rant.
I like Walmart Personnas more than Merkur and Dorco blades, but I like Red-Pack Personnas, so what do I know... rrr
Losing 40 or 50 hairs is a huge deal. I can't imagine anybody claiming otherwise. I can count on one hand how many the Rooney has lost in 6 months. I'd be clamoring to the vendor over that one.
I contacted Bernd about 3 weeks ago and he said give it about 2-3 weeks. I did and it didn't get any better. I emailed him today and I will be sending it back. I really don't know for sure. I can tell you that the QED is denser than my shavemac but the previous Rooney I owned was the densest brush I ever owned.
I use a Tweezerman. I'll get a real brush someday. I'm a face latherer, so I'll probably get a Rooney... but who knows.
John, if you want a rooney get one. But don't overlook the QED brushes just because they are cheaper. Mine is a 24mm in best badger and I love that brush. It has the best bloom of any brush I have used----shavemac, rooney and vulfix. It also works well for both soaps and creams but really, really good on soaps. It is not floppy at all. If I don't like this Rooney that I just bought on the b/s/t I am going to just get another QED in silvertip.
I think I'd like a brush that doesn't bloom or splay out a lot. I see pictures of some brushes that are bloomed out so much I wonder how people use them things. I have another brush that I keep forgetting I have. It came with the Speick box I purchased in December that I have not used yet. I'm not sure what the hair is made from. She looks like a this:
The shavemac I have bloomed but nothing like my QED. The previous rooney I had was used and it didn't bloom much at all.
calling it a night early to see if I can haul my butt out of bed early enough to make it out to Hancock in the AM. It's all the way on the opposite end of I-68, so I'm looking at 2hrs each way. And if Guido is accurate, I'm not likely to find anything. It's 46,000 sq. feet, so I hope to see *something* I want.
Bong is fixin me up with some blades to try out. I'm thinking there will be something to get it done with in the bunch.
