Officially the tax season rush ends for our office today. We will process and electronically file the last of the returns which clients have approved. Then we will file electronic extensions on everyone else moving the deadline to October. So today is a very nice Friday for me. The Shiloh smells fantastic and works even better. I really enjoy this soap. Three passes and touch ups ended in a near perfect shave. A splash of the matching Shiloh aftershave and I am ready for the day. Happy Friday everyone. I hope you guys have a great day.

OK, today’s blinding glimpse of the obvious: I have too many soaps. I know this has been obvious to everyone but me, but I’ve been clinging to the “variety is the spice of life” theory. Unfortunately, this theory has diminishing returns at a certain point. Case in point: with over 100 soaps in the den, I’ve ended up with a few soaps that I bought almost a year ago and haven’t even lathered once.

So, now I’ve discovered SRD. Soap reduction disorder. I am finding that passing along good soaps that others will enjoy (even at a financial loss) can be quite rewarding. So, now my goal is to sell and/or PIF enough soaps to make room for a custom straight razor holder that I plan to make and put in my shave cabinet.

I’ve already put aside soaps to support my SRD in sufficient quantity to empty my overflow cabinet and to reduce my main cabinet to “slightly less than full” status. I’ll let you guys know when the new soaps end up on the BST. Wish me luck!

Screenshot_2019-04-12-08-07-12.png I have got to stay off of the Bay. Rubberset 400 # 3 is on the way. I could not pass it up for $30.00 including shipping.

Going to derail the thread for a moment, don't worry, it won't take long to get back to the regularly scheduled programming.

Over across the street we have the Starling pass around going on.
    It's my turn with it.
First pass was with the closed comb plate. It wasn't a bad pass. Once you develop the muscle memory to get the right angle it is just the same as any other razor.
I then changed to the open comb plate.
Again, once you find the angle, it's akin to any other razor. I'll try the plates in reverse order tomorrow or Sunday and see if that makes any difference. I suspect it won't. IMG_20190412_085151_819.jpg

IMG_1890.jpg I've had a great run with this Canadian ball-end Old Type this week. Another good shave this morning. I whipped up a great lather with this soap and brush. I really dislike this Fine tub, though. Too small.
As well, I did follow Clint's advice and contact Mark at Simpson directly, as opposed to their generic email contact. I got a very prompt response (especially given the time difference to the Isle of Man) to say that a new sticker was 'dispatched'. Very much appreciated.
Next up for neglected razors is the humble post-war Tech.
I am so happy it is Friday...Have a great day, all!

I would point out that it is the same company that thinks 5 blades edged in plastic, lathered with canned, pressurized synthetic chemicals is what is best for your skin...
Great stuff, Danny. Why is the F plate your fave?
Very neat looking razor, Jim. I look forward to seeing your MonoBilt in action next week as well.
Congrats on the new razor, James! Very nice.
Beautiful combo. I don't have to deal with tax season, Clint, but I'm with you on pure relief that this Friday is upon us.
Can't help you, Randy, even though I see some very nice products on your sale list. I'm pretty firm on the 'one in, one out' model for razors, soaps and splashes these days.
I would have jumped on that one as well, Danny. Great score!
Talking about a razor pass around is certainly not derailing this thread, Aaron. Bright lights and BBQ photos stands a much better chance...

Yup, I think I've wasted enough of people's time with 'stickergate' as it is.

Thank you Guys. I actually got around to doing our returns this morning. A case of good news and worse news. I completed Asha's return and had her small refunds directed deposited into her account. I next completed mine and my wife's return. OMG. Overall the tax change helped us in total amount of taxes paid but the reduction in the withholding tables left us cutting a check north of $7k. No more Acquisition Disorder for the time being.

Congrats Danny. Take a look at the 400 Doug has been using this week. I polished that one up to a mirror shine.

Very cool! Either you got it for a bargain price or the market has changed since I shopped them. The knot looks like it's seen better days from the photo. To remove the ferrule when swapping in a fresh knot, strap wrenches. If you have a Harbor Freight nearby they sell a pair for like $4. Decided what knot for the replacement? Got your sandpaper progression?
