This is a Challenge Cutlery "Celebrated Rifle Razor" I obtained last Summer for $7. I was the only bidder. This maker had a good reputation back in the day.

Last night I did 50 or so x strokes on a Coticule followed by linen and horsehide. I am pleased with the shave I got this morning. I hesitate to make this comparison, but the edge is not as keen as the Thuringian on the Geneva. Not a very evidenced based comparison, but just a feel thing.

This mornings shave was pretty mediocre. For some reason this razor doesn't live up to my expectations. I do a lot of one or two pass shaves but couldn't get away with it with this razor. Have a good one.

    Beautiful Tim!
Question for the group... are these double notched tangs OEM or possibly a result of a regrind in the razors history? This one looks original based on the stamping of the tang, but quite a few i have touched/seen effect the tang stamp, so look to be added later.
I guess I may have answered my question there :)... "depends on the razor," but i really like the look and feel of the ones I have and wonder if this was time constrained and/or later mod?
Might be cool to set up a thread with examples... might do that this weekend after i peruse my examples.

That dark blade seems to be holding up really well. Interested in whether you or Keith have seen any wear from stropping or usage, especially on the edge of the spine?

I haven't, but I have only shaved with it maybe 5 times. I try to use most of my razors in my rotation, with the exception of the customs, I use them in bet
    between. I know TMI .

I appreciate the info. I have a Brian Brown that I almost consider stropping with tape based on the darkened blade... but that seems crazy. I know it is a tool to use... but it is a very nice tool. :eatdrink047:

I would agree, that tool is better than my dark blade too!

I have not seen any color change from stropping. I have not put it on the stones yet. I also believe it is a tool and that if there is where from the strop it is just patina. I has seen a pasted strop and I have no issues with color change.
