Continuing my Focus on the Focus R21.

    5th shave on Astra green

    Great shave.

To date I would say all of my shaves with this instrument have been pretty much equal. While #5 on this blade is noticeable, the result is still the same. I'll probably try it for another day and see what I get.

While it is not necessarily popular to tout the attributes of a particular tool, I think this is excellent. I find the 'plasticdoodad' mechanism for holding the blade exceptional. In the picture below I hope you can see the blade locked in with pins and stops that keep the corners securely guarded and the edge slightly recessed

My path with open edge tools was straights. I love them. Most were honed by one of 3 different individuals who have tens of thousands to their reputation. I'm not sure any of my straights will outshave this piece. Icertainly have a new target when I hit the hones.

If you have considered open edge shaving, but balked for any of the normal reasons, this could be what you are looking for. The Focus R21 gets the MaxHeadroom letter of recommendation. It'll set you back less than the cost of some soaps and uses blades you probably already have. It has nice balance handles well and the concept of 'riding the cap' almost fits. Here is a picture that may show what I mean.

Your training will be comparable to a straight. I believe if you acquire this skill, you will notregret it. If you step in and it's not for you, your out $20.

    Be well, shave free.

You? Too many soaps? I would never have believed such a thing. Nobody on this thread has too many of anything! I do know what you mean, though. I don't have close to 100 yet but I am already finding soaps that haven't been touched. It's part of the curse of doing what we do, but good for you for having a plan to deal with it! And others will have some great soaps in the end!

    Day 98.

Yesterday was crazy busy, so I didn't get around to a photo. The soap was Edwin Jagger sea buckthorn. Nice. Another one that doesn't come out enough. The scent is pretty light, maybe partly because the puck is ancient. But the lather rocks. A definite keeper. I have four pucks of other scents that I haven't tried yet.
On to today, Mike's is also no slouch. Three passes with the Mockba gave me the now normal almost but not quite. So the G5 finished the lower neck.

    Arko Adjustable April

    April 12

    Razor - 1959 (E4) Gillette Fatboy(9) CJB Greager
    Blade - [IMG] (1) artist-club-small-professional-blades.jpg (?)
Soap - Arko, VDH Scented Luxury
Brush - Jayaruh #54, VDH Boar
    Post - Alum

Back to shaving tonight and I realized it's been three weeks since I shaved my head. My wife made a comment about it and I noticed my reflection in a door at one point today - and that silver glow from the sides of my heads. That will never do. Time to get rid of that problem. Of course, the only way to get rid of that much hair is the pain stick. I chose the CJB with the Feather Pro blade. I've used this blade a couple of times in the CJB but don't know how many. Doesn't matter as it's still perfectly sharp and usable. I made it through the head shave using the VDH Boar and soap for the simple and cheap lather. And when I say I made it through the shave I mean bloodless. I'm a bit surprised as I felt one bite on the back of my head when the angle dipped a bit, but no blood appeared. I'll take it.

As for the regular shave, the Fatboy with Rapira blade running on Arko and the JR54 brush - three passes of perfection to kill two days worth of growth without a whimper. Alum was quiet so no issues and I'm back to looking like the dashing young man I am. In my mind, at least.

Saturday is rushing toward us! Hope you have fun and relaxing stuff planned. If you're working, then I hope you have a great weekend with that as well!

I'd recommend progressing to your PM box. Clint knows the numbers & an auto paint shop will sell the finer grits of sandpapers.
I still have several packages of 3 or 5 grades of wet or dry sandpaper from my one attempt. Clint will tell you about sore hands from all the sanding. Basically give it a good clean up, followed by a middling grade, maybe 1200 grit to see where you are at. You might step down to a more coarse grit when you see what's not cleaning up easily. Then it's back to finer grits until you switch to Mother's Finest type paste.
Be prepared to hear, "How much sanding is that going to need?" Just enough to be satisfied. You'll have a new found appreciation for that billet milled Other-400.

I paid 138ish for the whole lot that it was in. Right now I do not remember what all was in it....but I did not feel bad about the price at all. I agree 75 is high for it..
