  2. I just Googled beading show. I would find that about as exciting as my wife would find a wet shaving show.

  3. It is more boring than you can possibly imagine.
  4. Almost true. My wife doesn’t get mad at my shaving purchases, though. She has way more frustrating stuff about me to deal with.
Pic 1 - after 5 sales being boxed up there is still plenty slated to go.

Pic 2: With the exception of straights, everything now fits in my shaving cabinet. Note the empty spaces and the gear I moved from the counter in the top left corner!?! It will take round 2 before there’s enough cleared for the straights to get their custom home, but we’re getting there

In retrospect, my wife probably will be rewarded significantly in the next life. Me, not so much...

  7. It looks great, Randy. Your storage system is top notch and very well organized. All kidding aside, I understand the need to go through and pass on stuff you do not plan to use. It's good for you and good for folks that want to try some new/different products. It's quite cool that you made a systematic effort to evaluate such a large variety of shaving soaps. If I have a question on something, I know who to ask.

I've got a closet and a vanity dedicated for my shave den storage in the new house. I'll post some photos when I have everything set up in the coming weeks. I don't have as much stuff as many do here, but it will be nice to consolidate everything. I've used the inventory list in My Shave Den and a spreadsheet to keep track of everything. Every time I get ready to make a purchase, I can quickly see what I already have. It has prevented me from picking up some new stuff, and it has allowed me to pass on some stuff as well.

I'm in the process of overcoming pack rat mentality in my paper files. I'm going through my filing cabinet, pulling out what's no longer needed, and transporting "clean" files into moving boxes. I've been at this, off and on, since I retired, and I've already made quite a dent. I'm using the move to make a final push toward getting everything cleaned out. Likewise, my Bride and I have been to Goodwill a few times during our packing process. This will continue until we get everything packed up.

My problems could have been easily identified in childhood. Who knows? Maybe I could have taken a pill for it. I'm one of the few kids that actually admired Templeton in Charlotte's Web. He was a a pack rat with an attitude.

'''I prefer to spend my time eating, gnawing, spying, and hiding. I am a glutton but not a merrymaker. Right now I am on my way to your trough to eat your breakfast, since you haven't got sense enough to eat it yourself.'''

Have a great weekend, my friend.

  8. I spent a year or so in New Iberia working for a lumber yard chain. Daughter, my third child, was born there. Never did go visit the hot sauce factory. One day we'll do the scenic ride and Avery Island should be included. Also the Perique fields of Saint James Parrish. (Edit; named the wrong Parrish/County)

  12. Thank you Danny. The brush and razor are in a tray with small rocks that my wife uses at craft shows to hold up the ear ring cards.
  13. Thanks Charlie. I got all of my Gillettes out and laid and them on the bed this morning. Some how there was 27 and I think I have around 20 SEs. I think I have a problem. ;)

  17. I'm not one for modern razors as a general rule anyway, but I do like the fact that some affordable options are showing up. The problem with being affordable is the quality isn't going to make them heirloom quality, but maybe that's not the point. My collection of moderns includes the EJ DE89, Fatip, Wunderbar and Qshave. Also some ultra cheap Chinese razors. Of those, the Fatip and Wunderbar could probably be heirloom, but I still much prefer the vintage gear.

What is this "hoarding" you mention, by the way? Seven pucks of Taback to get free shipping.....that's just good business!
  18. i don't think our vintage razors were thought of as heirloom razors back in the day....they've just lasted this long..i think my 09 mustang gt won't be a classic in 30 years but..who knows..
  19. Randy, you do not need a den. You need a warehouse. :shocked003:Looks amazing!
  20. Thanks for the link.. more eye candy to look at and a little inspiration to boot.
