I was hoping it would be televised here....wanted to see it. My family lived on Connecticut Avenue just north of the Washington Hilton. In the mid 60's we lived north of the National Zoo.

The den clearing exercise has me thinking.

During the my accumulation stage, I was still learning what I liked. It’s not like I was hoarding as much I was exploring. New soap scents and types, new brush sizes and type, new razor aggressions and types... so much variety that it took a long time to dial in what I really liked. Then my scent tastes evolved a bit from simple to complex, and my improved skillset allowed me see old gear in a new light.

While there still may be more some exploring left to do, I’ve now developed preferences and favorites and the mission has now become narrowing the dizzying variety of good gear to a smaller subset of the stuff I like the very best. It’s the same journey as before in reverse. Instead of auditioning things to add, I’m auditioning things to cut. Strangely, this phase is more enjoyable, as instead of trying to find what I like, I’m narrowing down to what I like the absolute best. Today’s casualty: a vie long horsehair brush I set in Jerusalem olive wood. Great brush. Just not a favorite.

Sunday morning April 14 - Rule shave #25

Delta Echo refurbished Gillette Fatboy on 4 / Rapira Swedish Supersteel (1)
Simpsons CH2 Chubby Synthetic Bristles brush
    MWF/Kent in beechwood tub
Alum and Polar Ice Booster splash

Continued to concentrate on small strokes today. Great shave! No tugging as I shaved a multi-day whisker growth and Mr. Alum was silent at the end.

Hope everyone has a blessed Sunday and then heads into a wonderful week.

Nice looking brush Randy. I am sure you'll find it a good home that will enjoy having it in their den.

Randy, if there could be only one of each item, what would it be at this stage?

Fatboy or Slim on 7 with a feather. (Hopefully to be replaced by a straight TBD as my skills improve.)
    Chatillon Lux Aftershave

Ironically, using a DE, I find the razor and blade itself the least important/experiential part of the shave. As far as the rest, I still love variety. Just dialing in the right variety for me.

Your question to Randy got me thinking. Every category would be a tough decision but at this very moment:
    Razor-Blackland Dart
    Blade-Feather
    Brush-Grizzly Bay WarForge/Maggards SHD
    Soap-A&E
    Aftershave-A&E matching soap of course.

hello fello shavers, old school citrus sunday shave today, arko shave soap pressed into a bowl, opal brush restored by Keith, and the awesome 1945 #77 new rfb loaded with the shark blade, second use..loaded the opal and got a captain's bowlful of fragrant slick lather..was rewarded with a fabulous 3 pass dfs+,no drama..the first time i lathered arko i loaded from the stick.this soap is very malleable so i pressed it into a small bowl.derby sticks are very hard.i also prefer the arko scent over the derby .the 77 perform like magic as these rfb razors do.this is my 4th variant of this razor and it sports the later "creased at the inner centerline "flat bottom tech cap compared to the earlier ones.my obsession with these rfb razors continues as i have a green bakelite cased silver 2 piece on the way..anyway enough on that, finished up with pinaud lime sec and the rest is history..have a fine sunday afternoon everyone.. 2019-04-14 11.39.55.png 2019-04-14 12.03.32.png
