Ah, I forgot to mention the Stahly. Any Razor designed to be smooth while vibrating, has got to be confident in its ability to hold the razor's edge away from your skin. After using this combo, by reading how @GDCarrington did, I'm at a loss as to why it isn't more widely thought of.
Well a few of us have mentioned the Stahly here at least. Wouldn't want a rush to drive up prices Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
Merkur Futur gives very smooth shaves to me. It has some disadvantages. The head is too big. But the gliding on face is excellent.
I would have said my Muhle R41 a week ago. Now I will have to say my new Rex Ambassador. I completely decimated the Gillette Adjustables I have tried.
For me it’s the Razorock Mamba and Merkur 15C. I alternate between the two during the week. Smooth and irritation free.
According to the RR website, the Mamba has been changed from a .68 to a .70 and the blade exposure has been altered. Has anyone used the .70?
"Smooth" IMHO is the result of your technique matching the razor. Most people in this thread seem to be mentioning what would be considered milder razors, those with small blade gaps, but not necessarily 'smooth'. I personally struggle with these mild razors (Tech or Merkur '1904' for example). I find the R41, the Merkur Progress (on 4) and the Merkur 39c to be efficient and smooth as all get out. Herm
Technique, paired with equipment, yes that's an excellent recipe. But, there are several razors that seem to get the job done with an all terrain quality, over curves, around tricky spots, j hooks, g slides. Speedily giving you great results, but with a comfort unrivaled by others. I can get good results with many, if not all, but some require your attention. The ones that just perform almost automatic are fewer and are sought after by many. I assume, especially those who suffer from irritation, or sensitive skin.
If I'm not mistaken the old Mamba is .58. I hope the .70 is more efficient, because the old one is terrible.
Wow what a question.... I recomend staying away from the so called efficient razors for now, a R41 would come to mind. But really, as your skill set becomes better, so will your "smooth" shave. I've been doing this wet shave thing for about a year, and I find that more than anything, get your technique down. If you have the skill, you will be amazed what razors and blades you will be able to get a wonderful, smooth and issue free shave you will get. That's been my experience. Good luck! tp
