It is a 48 and the razor is not a gold washed Super Speed. That razor is the gold washed version of the US Aristocrat Jr. The crease in the safety bar guard was introduced in 1948 across all the razors being produced in the US, didn't matter which model or set.

Milord sets came with 4 or if you count pre and post war razors as different style razors then 5 distinct razor styles.

40 - 41 you had the pre war style of Ranger Techs
46 - 48 post war style Ranger Techs
48 US Aristocrat Jr style razors aka the one you have
48 - 53 or 54 you had the 3rd variant of the 40s style Super Speed razors, the 3rd variant as I define it is the one with the notched center bar.
49 you have an American Rocket styled razor

    Today’s shave
    Gillette New Bostonian SC
    Wilkinson Sword Classic
    Wickham 1912 Scottish Heather
    Buffalo brush restored
    Witch hazel.

I usually don’t expand enough on my shaving experiences too much but I will tell you this Wickam 1912 sure lathered well and the New SC mowed through a couple day stubble to give a fantastic shave. It’s not the prettiest, most uncommon, or most pristine razor I have but it sure does shave well.

awesome shave sir, function is the most important part of the shave gear..shiny doesn't make for better shaves..common razors are the best working ones. rare ones didn't work or sell that well imo..

I meant Super Speed as a generic term but I should have just used TTO. I am always amazed at the knowledge and insight on tap here and across the other forums. So it is a 48 Milord...story is still the same.
