John Brown wanted to start a slave revolt and the Haiti slaughters were fresh memories in the South. Needless to say I believe he stole some guns from an armory, was later caught and hung. No great loss.
The problem was like today everybody thinks they know what is best for everyone else. This was the Yankee puritan attitude which flowed out of the north. It is an interesting study. Please don't take offense Joe. I don't consider you a Yankee because I sense that you have respect for our culture. I consider you a friend from NY.
hello fello shavers, simple monday shave tonight.first drive with the canadian ww2 tech, gsb blade.got a dime sized amount of black ship grooming captain's reserve soap in the captain's bowl and the wcs synthetic brush whipped up a nice aventis scented lather..i initially started the shave with the shark blade on it's 3rd go, but pulled and tugged.i guess i knocked the edge off.loaded the twice used gsb and no issues..i will try a shark again another day..felt like a new derby extra..so ,3 pass dfs+ no drama..stick to what ya know ..no need to shop for new blades so i'll stick to gsb, nacet, spoilers, astra green and polsilvers.with a 7 oclock green and a voskhod for good measure..enough babbling..finished with black ship splash, nice stuff..have a great tuesday gents..
Thank you for the compliment, Danny! I know that I am not perfect and my NY bullheadedness gets in the way sometimes. Lol! However, I became a true believer in Christ and as a follower I try to see things on both sides. We are all Americans with different and interesting backgrounds and that's why I accept everyone as they are. Besides, in my weak moment, I may try crawfish! Lol!
I'm not perfect by no means and very hard headed at times but we are brothers through Christ. Take care friend.
Arko Adjustable April April 29 Razor - Russian Ideal Adjustable (5) Blade - (2) Soap - Arko Brush - Stirling Two Band Synthetic Post - Alum Having a little fun tonight and tomorrow with the new arrival. The Russian Ideal is a razor you see bouncing around some on eBay. At one time it was fairly common but seems to have disappeared as of late. This particular one came from one of my regular blade sources in the Moscow area. I suspect you'll see a few more show up on the bay if you're interested. He said he has 7 of them and is auctioning them instead of outright selling them. If it's any consolation I was the only bidder on this one so it's not terribly tough to get. I've seen reviews on them before. Some good, some bad. The build quality isn't horrible but not quite as tight and nice as the Consul. In my earlier post I put a close up on the dial where you can see they mis-painted the "3" as a "5". QC at its finest. The handle on this is longer than the Consul (I included the Consul on the right in the pic to compare) and I'm going to do some more comparison as I use it a bit more. I set it on "5" tonight.....the real one, not the fake "3", just to test the gap. The Consul is quite a bit more aggressive than the Slim or Fatboy and this razor seems to follow that. The middle setting felt more like a Gillette wide open. I stayed with the Sharp Star blade and had a rather nice shave when it was all said and done. Once the doors are tightened down and it's set to go it actually feels solid in the hand and the long handle is a favorite of mine. Good control, easy to hit the angle, and everything seemed well aligned and working great. Two passes and touch ups and i'm near-BBS with quiet alum. That now makes two Russians that actually shave rather well. I'm liking it! One more day in April!! I'll have May open sometime in the fairly near future. Thanks again for all you guys do to make this place what it is!
Last year in Malawi the biggest part of out team was from Alabama. Needless to say, they immediately began teaching ASL* to the locals. Starting with the big one, "Roll Tide!" The other stand out was "slap full." That one was new to me. Good times! *Alabaman as a Second Language.
April ARKO & Adjustables ARKO, tubbed and air tight B-400 brush, Tuxedo knot The Bunny; WILD comb Bound & Shagged AS Face lathered using cool water and the synthetic knot. Chick blade is still cutting well. With my 1st pass WTG & 2nd ATG completed, relathering I could tell there was little stubble left. Did a 3rd in ear to nose XTG out of habit, but skipped all the usual clean up fiddling. No nicks which is the goal, but not always an accomplishment using this prototype injector with the high blade exposure comb. No great burn from the clean sheets scented high alcohol post shave product. It''s been a long day that started with waking the grand daughters for their first day back to school after their 10 day Spring Break. Their mother is working late evenings to early morning shifts so we'll do it again tomorrow. This Pawpaw will work in a nap sometime tomorrow. Good Shaves Y'all!
