So far this week it’s been factory-made rat razors, Gold Dollars! They’re always lots of fun because you get to do things with them like test stones and so on that you wouldn’t want to put the wear on the beauty queens. Tests like these are why they’re numbered, so I can tell them apart. Yesterday’s shave, how cheap can you go? A $5 Gold Dollar, a $13 l’Occitane Provence Plisson synthetic brush bought on clearance, a $5 puck of Salter lavender tallow ($7-8 in the US), and $22/liter AS. Note: Myrsol can be pricey in the crystal bottles, but you can get a liter of refill for about $22 from G&C). The shave was excellent! Today’s shave, Gold Dollars 208-7 and 208-9 from last night’s honing experiment, details on the honing thread. I really can’t tell much difference even though the look and hardness of the stones were quite different. Maybe a slight preference for 208-9 but I could be imagining things when they’re this close. Fun experiment anyway. Soap was SMN, brush was a Simpsons 57, and Myrsol AB finished things up.

Fabulous shave today, from an American made razor. It was a rescue razor that I wouldn't trade. Fantastic edge, and fantastic dimensions. The 2 pass shave wiped the whiskers off, like they weren't even there. Pennsylvania steel is awesome. Razor A.B.Shipley & Son. Philadelphia. Brush- JR#262. WD Silvertip Soap- Kingsman "Bourbon". John Holler The Tower brand J.P Donahue Hardware Co. 9/16 barbers notch and fancy scales. Found this at auction in a poorly written description. The scales were a draw. No bad for a 113 year old razor. I honed this one using film. Before using I did 60 x's on a Thuringian followed by linen and horse hide Illinois strop.
Easy Aces CLB Fresh Vetiver homemade synthetic Clubman My wife's Grandfathers razor. Nice one pass shave this morning. I've always liked these old Genco/ Geneva Cutlery razors. The ones I've run across seem to be very good shaving blades. Have a good one.
