  5. Thanks for the safety reminders, gentlemen. And good for you, Charlie, taking the time to warn the careless in the hospital about the dangers of unsecured pressure gas tanks, especially since gas tanks are everywhere in a hospital!

Glad to hear your friend has recovered, Danny. Tell him he has all our respect for going through what he did and coming out standing on the other side!

  9. Maybe we need to rephrase the question to shorten the list. What's the worst that could happen?

  10. Monday evening May 6 - enjoying shaves with neglected gear

Gillette English Aristocrat Jr / GSB (2)
    Jason's cypress badger brush
    TOBS Lavender shave cream
Alum and TSD Lavender Milk Aftershave

My last shave was the evening of May 1, so I had a five-day scruff to mow down. TOBS Avocado cream was my first really good shave product. I could probably have happily shaved for the rest of my life with TOBS creams if I hadn't developed into such a shaving butterfly, flitting from soap to soap and razor to razor. Too late to go back now, but I still really enjoy these creams when I pull them out. Great scents, wonderful easy lather, excellent shave protection and decent postshave feel. When I pulled out the Lavender tonight, it looked a little sunken in the tub with a consistency more like croap than cream, but it still didn't disappoint. Easy to load, quick to face lather, and the usual great performance. Lovely stuff!

I have never understood why the English tagged this model of Gillette razor as a "Junior". The finish might not be as fancy as the full Aristocrats, but the workmanship is impeccable and the shave quality is all grown up. One pass had me cleaned up from a hobo beard to a near DFS, and the second took me all the way down to BBS. No drama, no irritation. The TSD AS just capped off a great shave.

I think maybe I will spend May running through my rather neglected box of creams, starting with my various TOBS.

Hope everyone is off to the start of a great week!

  11. MAYhem!!! 2019

    May 6

    Razor - Wunderbar Slant
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Moon Old Style
    Brush - Jayaruh #312
    Post - Alum

Another round with the Wunderbar Slant and Voskhod. Ok, ok, so there's nothing terribly scary about this shave but it's fun. I do have to say this razor is heavy, easy to handle, and it is the first modern razor I've tried that I actually think I could use as a daily driver. Paired with the Voskhod it's about as smooth as I've ever had, and another two pass and reverse slide touchups brought the baby around again. The Moon soap with its heavy tallow load was luxurious off of the JR312 faux horse. Nothing here but good times.

In breezing through today's posts I see that Adam @Drygulch carried out his threat to harm himself with a blade glued to his finger. He had mentioned that in a conversation we had over the weekend. Well, it is MAYhem after all so what's a little blood among friends, right? Good to have him back. We'll see if he lasts the month. Alive, I mean.

Hope your week got off to a great start. Mine officially starts in the morning. We have major flooding happening around the area now with more rain forecast. It's been fun living in the STL area. I'll let you know when and where it comes ashore again. Fortunately there is no chance of any flooding where we live. If we go underwater there are much bigger problems than "local flooding". Have a great Tuesday!

  12. Actually i got 32 (so far) from the feather.
I'm using a Wilkinson sword blade in my new Wilkinson sword razor so i switched the feather over to the aristocrat, but ill use the feather once a week for the rest of its life.

  13. Thank you Joe @Trigger & Charlie @wristwatchb for the safety tips. Those guys with the aerosol can cannon are a couple nuggets shy of a Happy Meal. One of my brothers has been a volunteer fireman for decades. He also worked for a compressed gas supply company as a delivery driver. I've heard a few stories about the exciting side of fire fighting. That compressed gas is no joke. Oxygen, acetylene, nitrous oxide, and the like. Not sure if he delivered propane and he's too far north to do butane. When I was young dad was into scuba. Even plain old air is dangerous under pressure.
