That post made me chuckle.

 

Day 2 with the Autostrop. Today went much better. I guess it pretty much needs to be flat against my face. It just feels kind of strange holding it like that. TFS Tabacco Verde is a favorite of mine. Awesome lather, awesome scent, label that's not butt-ugly. It has it all. The Tabex aftershave, on the other hand, has issues. Tobacco, yes. But with a dirty ashtray note? I'm wondering if the plastic bottle is the culprit, like with the Veg. I'll have to try putting it in glass and see if that helps.

 

A little quick reading suggests this may be a vintage product. There's an Avon AS that's known to turn and present "dirty ashtray" as a predominant scent.

'55 A-4 Red Tip DE
Sputnik blade
Pinaud SR AS

Nothing bizarre, just a pleasant Tuesday's shave. The badger knot installed in the Hong Kong handle loaded easily from the lightly bloomed German soap. Whipped up a sloppy wet lather in the Japanese spice grinding bowl. The American DE loaded with a Russian blade gave three flawless passes and scored a high DFS. French inspired leather and tobacco aftershave / cologne finished off the shave in a manly style. Soon to pick up my grand daughters from their Field Trip at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans. They started very early, finishing late, and I suspect off to bed early. I'll have a quiet evening.

With this stuff it's more in the background. Just enough to pollute what otherwise seems like a nice scent.

 

I've encountered tobacco scent as both flower and finished product. See my shave above. Tabac is kind of a general cologne scent. Special Reserve has lots of leather with a bit of cigar scent. Neither offers to me dirty ash tray. I do enjoy a pipe, and used to smoke cigarettes so I may be nose blind to the less desirable tones.

Why does this sound so familiar?

Um, I don’t have time to think of butterfly references at the moment, (...you know, the whole day job thing...), but this seems like kind of a layup. Charlie must be caught up in the house thing not to have chimed in. John may get out unscathed on this one.

Sanibel is awesome. It’s been a vacation go-to for me since I was a kid. The Yucatán Shrimp at Doc Fords is my “last meal” request. Mmmmm!

They’d think you were an American, and this would only confirm their suspicions that all Americans are idiots.

That's exactly the kind of tobacco scent I don't like. But it sounds like the aftershave and soap of the same name product are complete opposites. That's quite odd.

 

My parents went to Sanbibel for a vacation many years ago.....they loved it.

 

Is there a petting area in that zoo?

Y'know, (and I say this at the risk of repeating an earlier post)Brett McKay of Art Of Manliness has bacon in his list of "18 Manly Smells".

 

Tried out the cup O derby tonight. Great lather. Very thick and good cushion. Maybe not the slickest though. Bleeding a bit on the chin. I'm going with operator error on this one.
I'm almost thinking of getting a deeper bowl for lathering.
