i thought I was dead set on next purchase a Rockwell 6S/C

Well today I pulled out the slim adjustable and got a spectacular shave @8 and 9

    Which led to some research

    The adjustable slim blade gap
    @ 8 is 1.04mm
    @9 is 1.14 mm

The Rockwell 6 with plate 6 is .79mm

Granted blade gap is not everything.

If I like the higher setting on adjustable will I like the Rockwell 6S?
How does Gillette slim adjustable compare to the Rockwell 6S?
I kinda feel it’s a waste if only use the 5/6 plate on the Rockwell.

Any other modern razors I should be considering, under $80?

    Fatip grande

Mine isn't finished very well, but it shaves very fine. No one complains about the fatip being too mild.
And they cost little, made of brass so it won't corrode.

Are all fat tips grande and piccolo brass with chrome plating? Is it only the special edition that is open comb on one side?

. I understand the r41 is Zamak with plating ? Open comb both sides?

As far as i know they are brass covered by whatever finish selected, mine is dark chrome. But mine is also starting to discolor, that's it's only issue. It's open comb, and very aggressive. Not overly so, if you mind riding the cap.
You asked for modern, inexpensive, and more aggressive than a slim. The fatip came to my mind first. The r41 will work for you too, it's finish is better. But two things. 1) it costs more, 2) many people don't like the handle that comes with it.

The Merkur Futur. Futur blade gaps start around where the slim leaves off (though, as you said, blade gap isn't the entire story). I used one exclusively for many years and it's a terrific razor.

Here's a table of blade gaps you might find useful. The table has been around for years and is available on numerous sites.

It is my understanding that the Fatip Piccolo SE is all brass and comes with 2 base-plates, one OS and one CC.

The R41 is Zamac. Neither side is OC, rather, they are scalloped.
