I enjoy using the 6C for my head shaves because I get BBS everytime w/o mishaps. Tonight wasn't any different.
Three passes, touchups for BBS. Topped the shave with Old Spice.

Face Shave:
Dovo Shavette
Voskhod Blade (5th shave)

Old Spice AS
This is Dovo Shavette Shave #65. Face-lathered to a soupy lather, so I had to add more soap to get the right consistency. Starting out, I knew that this blade was dull, but I was shaving with it to see how far I can go. I needed 3 passes instead of 2 and the touchups did not bring it home so I put in a new blade. This 4th pass did the trick but I didn't want to go BBS to risk irritation. I did a fool's pass and got 2 weeps, no biggie, witch hazel took care of it without any remaining evidence. I would say it was an IBSS+.
Although I had to do 4 passes, it was a nice shave
Result: Facial Shave Grade 94 = A
Headshave: I don't grade DE safety shaves.

Second night with the R41/Sharp Star. I picked up the Stirling Sheep. Think I'll run through the mutton tallow soaps and this is a fine one to start with. Unscented, other than that musky sheep fat thing that isn't at all offensive. The quality of the lather is absolutely second to none. With the JR46 it whipped up into a very thick and cushioned lather with slickness to last a week. After three passes my face feels like it's been moisturized instead of shaved. I really enjoy rinsing the brush and squeezing what's left into my hand. It's like holding a soft yet supportive pillow in your hand. That's the best I can describe it. Long live dead sheep fat!!

Three passes and the baby is back yet again. Alum was just a tad sharp on a couple of spots on my neck. I got a little heavy handed with the already heavy and aggressive Muhle. No blood, though, so that works.

Thanks, Andrew! I usually don't include my headshaves because I use safeties and 99.9% of the time I get great shaves! Also, I usually don't shave the face and the head at the same time. However, I did so this evening because I am going to my grand niece's First Holy Communion and I didn't want to be under pressure to shave in the morning. Anyway, thanks, again!

 

Chris, that's a great shave! I like the Rockwell blades, but I would say that they are middle of the road in sharpness and they are smooth. It only illustrates that shaver's have a different subjective assessment on the same blade. One man's poison is another man's meat!

Can't argue perception based, technique dependent, subjective judgement. It's why I preach that blade reviews are generally to be ignored. In my world there are only two categories of blades--blades I would buy again and those I wouldn't.

 

Or your technique has improved.

I'll put a Rockwell in a shavette and find out.

 

Saturday Shave

I am glad I finally picked up a SK-3 and that I had Glen give it the spa treatment. Today's shave was treat, everything was excellent and the results epic. This blade is the only full hollow smiling razor I own, it feels small compared to my other huge smiling blades but it makes shaving the area like my neck and upper lip a breeze.

Irritation A+ Closeness A+ Smoothness A+ Sharpness A+

Always possible. I think I still have the other four somewhere.

 

Nice steel. Looks wild, but I bet it shaves mild after the @gssixgun treatment!

It is very sharp but the edge feels like velvet.

 

SR new converts need to know about him. The feel of the open blade is critical to learn, and a @gssixgun edge is what straights are supposed to "feel like" on the face. In other news, bought some A. Fuente 8-5-8 today....

I agree completely, starting off with a good edge is one of the keys and Glenn is the master. That is a very nice cigar, enjoy!
