In a recent post I gave a strong criticism to shave gels-particularly Edge-because in my experience the scent of the gel outdoes that of the ensuing aftershave. With my current purchase of shave gel and aftershave, both from Agadir4Men, it should be more natural, as both have the same scent(Oud Wood).

Up and moving entirely too early on a Saturday morning. We are off to visit my Mom today early for Mother's Day. Everything just worked together for a fantastic BBS shave this morning. A splash of mentholated witch hazel followed by a spritz of Guerlain Vetiver Edt left me feeling and smelling great. I hope everyone has a wonderful Saturday.

As always, beautiful shot, Clint! I have been asleep at the buzzer on photo nominations. In fact, the Academy liked one of your recent posts even better...

If you haven't watched gssixgun's video on getting a shave ready edge using only 4k and 8k stone, it's worth the 14 minutes, IMHO. I've been able to replicate this on two straights, and now getting very nice shaves. One (Puma) took only 25 minutes, as I think it was taped when it was honed before. It was my first try ever honing a straight. The other (Henkels) took over 1.5 hours, as it was not taped previously when honed, and I taped it. It may be harder steel than the Puma. Taping results in a (minor) bevel angle change, if the straight has never been taped for honing, so more metal to remove getting to a bevel set.

gssixgun has two tests he does as he goes, that only require a fingernail, and then arm hair. The Henkels took a long time to get past the fingernail test. This video shows how minimalistic it can be (tools and technique) from not shaving to a shaving edge. It also proved to me that I had already spent too much on honing, and all I had extra was a 12k stone. I won't get rid of it, I'll just learn to go a little further. There's many techniques from simple to philosophical, and then a seemingly infinite amount of $ you can spend to get to a shaving edge. I'm opting for the as simple as possible so I can replicate it, and save that $ for more razors. HTH.

The last few weeks have been a little rough, only having a few days to spend with my family before having to go back out of town. This last trip started off in nw Arkansas unloading 4 140’ cell towers each day. It was a last minute trip due to the company who was supposed to do it ended up not having a large enough crane for the job. So since my company was doing the building part of the job we needed to unload then too. But here are my shaves from this last week. I’ll post tonights shave this evening. It would be a good candidate for a handle. Possibly cut a slit in the aluminum and slip it up onto the head. Then through bolt somehow with a counter sunk machine screw. Just a thought.
