The good thing about Williams is that it is cheap enough to practice with.

    Good evening, guys!
I have recently been shaving at night and find it more relaxing, than doing it in the morning or late afternoon.
Just finished Dovo Shavette shave #67 and now I am only 1 behind my traditional SR shaves. So, that makes 67 + 68 = 135 total straight shaves which is more than 2/3 of achieving my goal of 100/100 totalling 200 straight shaves. Ok, let me get back on track with my report. Yesterday, I had a minor mishap in that when I was taking the blade out to clean and rinse, it flipped out of the insert and down into the drain. Oh well, I am not taking the plumbing apart to get it. I replaced it with another new 1/2 Voskhod blade. Used my Rocky synthetic to lather Stirling Bay Rum. It is a great scent and is typical over-the-top Stirling performance in slickness and richness. Two passes, touchup and got a "ghost" weeper for a fantastic BBS shave. FWIW, a ghost weeper is a tiny teenie weepie that shows and just disappears on its own. I have encountered these little critters before. Finished with the Stirling Bay Rum with that great soothing burn.
    Result: Grade 97.5 = A+
Enjoy the rest of the night and make it a great day tomorrow guys!
PS, I know that I am behind on reading and answering your posts, but I had a very busy weekend. I promise to catch up ASAP. 20190512_214459.jpg 20190512_214459.jpg

The only thing that matters with Williams is that you need to have soft water to get a nice lather. I live in NY and have hard water so I have to really stir the brush to get a mediocre lather. I generally molest it by using Noxema Classic Cleansing Creme as a preshave. I leave it on when I face lather the Williams and I get a nice lather.

Rob, I am glad you were able to skirt serious injury. Yes, shavette shaving is different than traditional straight shaving because it requires a lighter touch and is quite unforgiving if your technique isn't above average.

Let's just get this out of the way for the Game of Thrones fans around here. Wow. Not sure the correct reaction to that next to last episode ever. Was it good? Yes. Surprising? In a couple of places, yes. Was it dark? Oh, yeah, was it ever. Here we go. One more episode to go.

For the rest of you who don't have to worry about that obsession - it's shave time. Final turn with the R41 and Sharp Star. Two days growth and I decided to grab the Stirling Fair Debonaire LE soap, better known now as Havorford. This is a great smelling soap that lathers up to a dark tan which makes it kind of fun. It's Stirling, so it's slick and protective. The JR54 brush looks pretty funky covered with brown lather, but it's a really cool shave overall.

Three passes to the baby and I'm set for the coming week. While I usually don't work on Mondays I will be tomorrow as we are making our annual pilgrimage to central Missouri for Interfuse from Thursday to Sunday. Just a heads up, I won't be around here after Wednesday night until sometime late on Sunday. I won't be shaving between then either as I'll have more important things to do. Camp, stay up until 4am dancing and partying, you know, those kinds of things. Hope you have a great Monday and a great start to your week!

Blair, every straight razor shaver has had those Red Badges of Courage, no biggie as long as you don't need stitches. Otherwise, you are progressing very well. Good shave, report and picture!

Jim, in a pinch, you always come out smelling like a rose or whatever AS you use on any particular shave! Lol!

That's why I'm holding off on the shavette until I conquer the left hand, all the way through the shave.
