Thanks Joe...I appreciate the words of wisdom. I'll get there it will just take a little while. With a support group like this it will also be fun along the way.

Nah, gave up boating and water-skiing years back. Work, work, work.

If you felt that I was saying your technique, experience or advice was wrong, it was a misinterpretation.

Like I said, I think it is a motor skill thing.

I have no idea how singular 'dominant hand' shavers do it especially open edge. I've watched videos of folks using open edge tools single hand with amazement. Interesting thing, some even comment on how amazed they are that others are able to switch hands.

All of my cuts have been on blade set downs. Once I had the razor on my face with the skin stretched and I have blade feel, I always cut hair and not skin.

I also found buffing strokes with a safety razor to be more difficult for me than just finding the cutting angle and moving along. When I use a mild razor paired to a mild blade, I find it my most difficult shave because I have to buff.

My key point is that, I believe one to be wisest to pick one open edge tool and work with that tool slowly until they get it. Kinda like the general 30DC philosophy but longer.

As evidenced by our very opposite approaches that yield exactly the same safe and irritation free results for each of us, the key is individual and options on methods to try are our friends.

I do believe that sufficient 'time with the tool' is what is needed in every new case. For me, 100 days with mainly one open edge tool opened the world. It was advice I read based upon the experiences of many. I did not find it wrong.

    Be well.

Thanks for the info. That might have been one of my problems.........finding the correct angle because of the "rounded" area around the blade. I just could not get it dailed in so to speak. I will take your advise and not try to do a complete shave the next time around just concentrating on the cheeks.

Congrats on surviving the move Charlie. You've already done pretty well meeting your new neighbors. We still don't know a lot of our neighbors after 13 years.

Got any vacation days?............just kidding....someone has to man the ship!

Oh I have more vacation days unused than I could possibly take. My 30th wedding anniversary is on 6/11/19. My wife and daughter will be at the beach that week while I am stuck here at the office. :angry019: At least I think that gets me out of a big deal being made about the anniversary. ;)

In at least one of my readings from folks that have both styles, there was a preference for the Pro Super Blade. Since it is a little wider, it can facilitate a lower angle of approach. The user did not like how steep he had to come in with the other.

I was communicating with a guy I buy stuff from. He does not sell the Feather AC products, but he did say that 'in the hands of an experienced professional barber', nothing shaves closer. Many of his customers are professional barbers.

    Be well.

    Seaforth!~~Rubberset 400/3~~Boker Red-Injun~~Aramis Tobacco Reserve
    SR #94

There was never a doubt which soap I would use today.
This Seaforth! Mug and soap (never used) was a generous gift from @John Beeman :thanks:
Last evening, I removed the puck and grated it, with the intention of using the @GDCarrington
Vintage Williams Project, which I have done three times with my vintage Williams (what a surprise!)
    https://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/the-vintage-williams-project.45842/page-2#post-894306
However, I found the grated soap to be very moist, so I abandoned that plan and
    simply
pressed the soap back into the really cool mug. This mug is destined for coffee. :eatdrink013:
Taking my Rubberset I proceeded to get my load on. It didn't take long to have a lot of
wettish, foamy lather on my brush and in the bowl. First mistake.
I then proceeded to whip the soap, adding quite a bit of H2O.
My Aesop bowl over-flowed with very airy lather.
I tried more water, in the hopes of collapsing the air bubbles, but only succeeded in creating MORE lather.
    Oy Vey.
Now, you would think such an airy lather would not be stabile, but the contrary was true with this soap.
The shave was good. The soap didn't dissipate, but, I could have used more cushion.
The scent, btw, is reminiscent not of Williams, but of the original Old Spice soap.
The Red-Injun, which I honed yesterday, did a nice job. Not a buttery shave, but ok.
I need a lot of honing practice.
Post shave included the newly-acquired Aramis Tobacco Reserve.
Oh yeah, baby...I be smelling good.

Oh trust me I know I am in deep. I have a wife, two daughters and a girl dog. I am so out numbered I have no chance. We will take a long weekend for our anniversary later in the summer.
