Hi Gary, I love those Bakelite cases. I have an early English ball handle aluminum Tech in one. My Tech in the Bakelite set only weighs 30 or 31 grams, and although I never thought it would shave well, it is actually my best Tech as far as efficiency is concerned.
I have a question about your Tech handle. Is that handle in that set original? Were they made in England? The reason I ask, is that I have one in a 1953 Gillette Canada Military Tech set.

the fluted handle in that set is original to british war sets. the handle is hollow. the fluted handle in yours and my 53 canadian military tech is solid and heavier.side by side the hollow handle is shorter than the solid one on the far right. see the line above the fluting on the solid one as well. ihave only seen the solid fluted handle in 1953 canadian military sets.1951 and 2 had ball end handles ,though that could be coincidence..

 

This was the thrift shop miracle that Mrs S found for us. Completely unprompted by me and for a whopping $14.99! A cased 48-50 Gillette Aristocrat and the cleanest I own! First shave with it today and the blade of choice was the Gillette Silver Blue...of course.

Soap of choice was B&M Tuesday with the matching AS splash. The Chubby 2 was superb!
