  1. I'm in, of course!
For 'basics', I'll give my humble Techs, Superspeed and Injectors a run this month. Won't even try to promise to stick to drugstore software, but will pull out the Palmolive and Proraso stuff on occasion.
When is popsicle stick day again?

  5. Thank you, Clint. I am quite happy with how they turned out and I hope the guys like them. They are also a little bigger than they might appear- the knots are 28mm.

  7. After much constipation……I mean concentration (thinking hurts) I have come up with a focus and a plan for June. I have about 30 Gillettes and I have decided to do a Gillette and Univinlions Kai clone shavette focus. I narrowed the field down to 15 Gillettes because I shave every other day. I am also going to be using one brand of blades in the Gillettes which will be Astra SPs and one soap for the entire month. The soap will be Snake Bit by Fine Accoutrements. I will also be including a Univinlions shavette (Feather Pro blade) with every shave. I will be focusing on the cheeks with the shavette to begin with and adding more real estate as I feel comfortable. I will finish the shave with the Gillette of choice for that shave. Whew…I think I have it figured out and this should be fun.

Some of the Gillettes I have shaved with and some I have not. The reason for three K1s is because that is when baby Danny came into the world. Mama was proud!:happy068: I will post a group picture of the razors before the first shave Sunday. I look forward to following along with everyone else for the month of June.

  8. Well MISTER Fancypants, by definition, doesn’t go in for basics. However, if you compare my gear to @Keithmax’s my gear still qualifyies as basic. So there’s that...:)

  10. Here's another focus I just thought of-to achieve comfort and confidence with using the AgadirMen Invisible Shave Gel. It's weird shaving what you can't see, but it'd be a great skill to master. Probably won't have too many opportunities to use it as the warm-to-hot season approaches, but it's on my list of "trial products for year-round use. If you think I didn't just contradict myself, I'll sell you a house in Iowa with a great view of the Pacific Ocean :)). Bottom line-I'm going to put it to the "year-round challenge" , but as it is Oud Wood, I won't be upset if it doesn't pass the "heat&humdity" test.

  12. An outstanding group, Danny. The Old type, NEW LC, Canadian prewar Tech and Red Tip you referenced are amongst the very best of my vintages. The Flare Tip and 40s Superspeeds you have aren’t far behind. Awesome.

  15. As I stated in the May thread, I am going to pick a different "winner out of the hat" to tell me what razor to use that day. The only exception is that I will be choosing my Dovo shavette as my first razor in June because it will be my 75th shavette shave and it will give me a total of 150 straight shaves which will be 3/4 of my goal of 100/100 totalling 200 straight shaves.
  16. Thanks for the kind words, Gentlemen.

  17. I'm in for June's 30 day focus. Mine will be continuing only using/learning open blades. Really enjoyed May. Just sent off the Henkels to Glen....maybe rescale it, but definitely let him put his magic edge on it so I can compare to my newbie honing skills. I also have a good number of what I consider basic soaps and creams, so I'll use a good bit of those....maybe rotate one in every other day.

Since I'm a newbie....help me with my interpretation of basic soaps....I'm thinking of course Arko, Williams, but what about TOBS, GFT, Cella, Proraso, MWF? These would likely be sold at typical shaving sections in stores across the pond?

And...I might have to get a pass on using basics after Father's Day....I think wifey has been shopping (she's very good at it). :happy102:

  20. All sounds great!

On soaps, they last a long time. One stick of Arko can probably last 8-9 months as well as any of the other hard soaps. Almost nobody dislikes Stirling Soaps, worth a look. Other artisan soap makers do well too. Tons of scents to choose from. I've never used it, but loads of folks like Tabac.
