Hello guys. I hope you're having a relaxing weekend. I decided to share some photos of my shave closet located in our guest bathroom. This is most of my gear, aside from a few items on my sink vanity, in my travel kit, and some razors that need to be cleaned up. I simply focused on storage for now. I'll likely rearrange things and display some of my gear as we continue to get settled and organized. I'm baring my soul here, even showing my electric razor, carts, and cart blades.

The top shelf houses soaps in longer-term storage. I do have a question for my fellow soap hoarders. I have several...ahem...pucks of Tabac. Would it be advisable to store them in zip lock bags to preserve the scent, or are they OK as is for the long-term?

The second shelf houses the gear that I'm currently using or targeting for use in the near term. I have some soaps and shave cream in the back behind the razors. The toothbrush is the one I use to periodically clean up my razors. And the tube of toothpaste is...well...a rare find here in my neck of the woods. :happy102:

The third shelf houses my blades. The observant among you might think I have a blade problem. That could not be further from the truth! I doubt if I'll ever run out of blades. Have a ton of Russian and Feather DEs and Feather AC blades. :)

The fourth shelf has odds and ends, including one unmentionable kind of battery-operated razor that goes buzz, buzz, buzz and even a new Feather AC razor that will eventually go into the rotation.

My collection of razor boxes, etc. are in a container sitting on the floor below the bottom shelf.

With that, here is my humble collection. What you don't see here are 3 Techs (thanks to @John Ruschmeyer and @brit enabling), 1 Single Ring (thanks to @Linuxguile enabling), and 1 Aristrocrat (thanks to @Norcalnewb enabling) that will eventually show up in the razor rack. Looking at all that I have, I've decided to hold off on any further (non-consumable item) purchases of shaving goodies. I'm good for awhile.

Awesome setup, Charlie! Although, I'm confused. You want to PRESERVE the scent of Tabac? Like on purpose?

There were a lot less Shavey Awards than usual this year. For example, no entrants in the "Worst MAYhem Shave Results", "Most Ill Advised Mayhem Idea", "Least Inspiring Photo" and several others. Be that as it may, the first four awards are on the board over at the Shavey Thread.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the kind words.

Randy, I just want to keep the Tabac scent from permeating the new house. Local ordinances prohibit outside storage or burying the pucks in the backyard. ;)

This makes much more sense. Although if you really want to preserve it, you might want to store them at the local retirement home, where the "smell of old man" (as my wife describes Tabac) is already abundant...

Oooo, cool. I didn't but it's suggested to start with a pair of 5/8 round point half hollow grind SR. Not too tall that you can't see around them, no spiky points on the toe, not too flexible blades, and when one starts to dull you'll know by comparing it to the back up razor. The starter strop will get nicks. Accept it, and buy a better one later.

The wrong way, which is how I get started, is to purchase a RSO (razor shaped object), realize you can't shave with it, and a professional honer refuses to even try to put an edge on it. So you go out and buy a shavette that uses either 1/2 DE or hair shaper blades. Since you DO know (I didn't) how to make a lather, understand skin stretching, beard growth patterns, using less pressure, and the Techniques shared here, you'll be way far ahead of where I started. That shavette will still bite you so much quicker than a SR or a DE. Part of the learning curve is "Ouch, I don't like how that feels" so you learn about Set Down Errors.

There's so much more you'll pick up as you get involved. Looking forward to following the next leg of your Shave Journey. Good Luck!

    Good afternoon, guys!
Believe it or not, I drew out of the hat my 6/8 Ralf Aust Spanish point to shave today! With 2 other members shaving with RA's the last 2 days, I guess it was destined for me to join in the fun! This is straight razor shave #78. I decided to face lather the Stirling Bay Rum with my Omega 49 brush. Did 2 passes and touchups and got an IBSS with 2 tiny weepers on my stache area during my Fool's Pass. The shave was irritation-free. The cheeks were BBS, but I left invisible stubble on my neck because I didn't need to go BBS there. Anyway, I like shaving with Ralf Aust razors because they handle very well.
    Result: Grade 94 = A
    Have a great evening, fellas! 20190609_163814.jpg 20190609_163814.jpg

I finally finished polishing the Alpha 400. I purchased a modern 400 to avoid the work of restoring a Rubberset 400. In hind sight I should have gotten another Rubberset.

I set the knot in the first of two ferrules. I transplanted a Druida Manchurian. I have a Maggard SHD inbound for the second ferrule. I’m pretty satisfied with the way the Alpha 400 turned out.
