Okay, you guys (and you too MsB) are making me hungry. Gotta go rustle up some chow. Unfortunately, there's no catfish nor smoked pork in the house. Maybe some poached eggs....

Poor Tom, I had sausage gravy over some biscuts I whipped up and some greenbeans on the side. Easy Sunday nite dinner.

Now that sounds good! I opted for the poached eggs. Now that I've finally figured out how to get them to come out right every time (vinegar), I enjoy them!

Gotta work on pens... have been relaxing too much today!

Now that looks like fun! I can't wait to start fishing again...this weekend would've been great, but I'm working. Maybe if Tuesday is nice I can sneak some in...

umm....it looks like the razor missed a few places...

This was a very good shave day... Had about 3 day's growth going, so I really needed a shave.

I put a new feather in my dad's '56 SS (I've had problems with it since I started using it a while back). Whipped up some of Glen's Uberlather with Proraso and Williams. Managed to get BBS with zero irritation in three passes and some touch up, and was happy as a clam. Finished with Witch Hazel (the cheap stuff from Rite Aid) and a nice AV Musk splash (just picked up my first bottle yesterday - Yumm).

Just starting to feel a bit of shadow creeping in, so I should be able to repeat this in the morning. Looking forward to that.

I think I've settled on Feathers as my favorites, but still need to try a couple others, just to be sure. I find I like really sharp blades. Any suggestions?

I like the Astra Superiors, but a feather is the sharpest blade you can get IMO. I used the Gem Ornate 1912 again with a Gem blade. (the pretty paint scraper my mom called it) The rest of a JM Frasier's sample (Haint is gonna have a fit again) and my Burma Shave boar brush. Good Sunday shave.

If you haven't tried a 7 O'Clock black (Super Platinum) yet, I would highly recommend it. I think it's sharpness rivals the Feather's, but is much smoother. Not as smooth as the 7 O'Clock yellow (Sharp Edge), but much sharper. I'd send you some, but I'm running low (gave away a bunch) and not knowing when the bulk order will arrive I want to keep what I have since it's my go to blade. I'd also suggest KAI blades. They were also super sharp and smooth, but I was only able to get 2 shaves out of them, where the 7OB I can get 4. So for sharpness in order: Feather, KAI, 7OB. For smoothness in order: KAI, 7OB, Feather (I find Feather's quite rough...) For highest amount of shaves: 7OB, Feather, KAI.

    HTH :D

EDIT: for me I'd put the Astra Superior between the 7OB and the 7OY...

Yep, sure need to go fishing. :) And sure need to buy/build a smoker. :) How are you all doing today? Just got home and got done with some dishes and such. Trying to catch up on all the stuff I missed. Oh, guess who accidentally won another open comb slant? Yep. :) I put the minimum bid in because my watch list was full, and that was apparently enough. :)

I will stop back shortly, I have lots of reading to do. :)

    Congrats?

It looks like a plastic handle, is the base plate plastic, too? It was hard to tell in the pic. But there was a razor blade still in it... Do you speak German?

Well, now we have one to pass around  :happy102 :D

hahaha yeah, I believe it is all bakelite, but some of them have a metal top plate. There is definately still a blade in it in the picture though.

Ich spreche kein Deutsch, aber ich bin mit Google Translate. :) (I don't speak German, but I use Google Translate. :) )

My dad said something to the effect of, "I hope they make better blades" when I showed him my vintage Gillettes.

Love it. Love it. Love it. I was a beautiful day outside today. Glad you made the most of it.

I've lived in both states, but I never went ice fishing. I hear it's more of an excuse to get out of the house, listen to recorded Packer games, and drink lots of Beam than it is about actual fishing... I gotta say the cabin fever gets bad in the Feb-March stretch. Hang in there. Mosquito season will come.

Thanks! That helps a bunch. I'll have to find some 7 O'Clock Black blades to try. Where are these made? Who sells 'em?

She also has (had?) the blacks. I just tried to get a link for you Tom, but when I clicked on the store it said the store was temporarily closed for inventory... I got mine through the TSD store. Razor and Brush also carries them, but I think they're down right now, too. Maybe westcoastshaving.com? I don't know if they carry them or not....
