I wanted to smell Ralph Lauren Safari, so I'm using this moment as an excuse to test the PAA CUBE pre-shave soap with the worst shave soap I own, the Trumpers Sandalwood hard soap. This will settle whether the CUBE can make 'any soap' shave well.

***EDIT - Forgot to change the blade and shaved for the 7th time on this one and it still shaved well. 2 passes + clean up. I'd say I got BBS out of it. The CUBE did not fully save the terrible GFT soap. It seems like GFT packed this with ANTI-lather ingredients. I got a marginally acceptable lather out of it. Very slick, but the protection was left wanting and to top it off the combination was pretty irritating to my skin. A tiny bit of burning and an itchy sensation. How can one soap fail so badly? I give it a '1' out of 10. The lowest score possible and represents, for me, the worst soap I've ever shaved with. If you want a challenge then by all means go with the GFT hard soap. I've tried everything possible to get it to lather. Brit said in a comment below that the newer version of GFT hard soap is much better. Well, I hope so because it smells good and has decent slickness..........but every other aspect of the soap is the worst of the worst. Virtually no protection, dries out fast and irritates the skin.

Still, on the whole the shave came out good thanks to supporting products like the PAA CUBE and I sprayed on some of the old, discontinued Shave Den mentholated Witch Hazel that knocked out the irritation. The Geo F. Trumpers post shave balm is solid. Not the best but it does the job well enough.

Thanks Gary. I'm hoping the lather boost works because I love the smell of the Trumpers Sandalwood hard soap better than the shave cream.

 

i heard the new trumpers soaps were better than the older batches..

Tabac Thursday's Shave

My prep was just a cold water rinse. The Tabac Shave Soap face lathered well with the Jayaruh #273 Synthetic brush. I did two passes with the AutoStrop A1 razor with a Valet AutoStrop blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Tabac AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Stirling Sandpiper today. 20 seconds to load the John’s Brushes Silvertip brush. Easy, thick, slick, lather. Gillette 7 O’Clock Green SS still in the Gillette Black Handle Flare Tip SS. Excellent smooth, close, shave. I finished with Stirling Agar aftershave.

Beautiful shave of the day, i cant resist using arko, its absolutely fantastic stuff.
Perfectly slick lather with plenty of protection and a stick of it lasts forever!
This one has a minimum of 24 uses on it and its barely shorter than it originally was, maybe 2mm or so shorter, so it will definitely last more than 100 uses for sure.

Usually i dont face lather with the Wilkinson sword classic shave brush, but it performed beautifully, definitely a fantastic beginners brush.

Forgive me for showing this banged up tube of Hamol - this week I received a beautiful brand new one. This cream is from Syria, of all places and it’s one cracker of a cream. It’s so easy to lather, it smells so nice, and it gives a pleasant cooling sensation along with very good postshave care. I don’t think the Prep and Alt Innsbruck need too much description - they’re both great. The Chabrawichi cologne is from Egypt, and I love its lemony/lavender scent which I find is perfect for the summer or for the tropics. Two easy passes resulted in a perfect BBS shave!

The More for You Shave Soap is some nice stuff, I'm liking it more and more with each use. Gives me a great protective lather and a fine shave. Some might not like the scent but I find it to be no problem. All the other parts seemed to like each other and, again, a fine shave was had. Now go enjoy your day folks.
