Last night.....Amazon did it's thing and delivered a 3 inch x 12 inch flat unfinished leather 'strop' with green and white polishing compounds. My experiment with CrOx started this way, as I didn't want to use CrOx on my 'real' strops until I was convinced this extra product and steps of stropping
worked for me, in my world. Only $13 if it didn't. I know and have read many posts extolling the CrOx and FeOx benefits. I get it...but I'm an engineer originally, and that mindset want's proof. It's kind of like the self proclaimed audio aficionado....who tells me a two thousand dollar 12 inch interconnect has better freq range (or adds clarity) than one I can solder up and make muhself for $50. Want to see freq response comparison on an oscilloscope? Double blind test? Nah....they usually decline....but I digress. The Ralf Aust did about 30 laps on the CrOx strop, then went to the linen, then leather as usual. Shave test result? One side of my linen strop will get coated with CrOx. Shaving arm hair after the CrOx addition, was better than before. Hair popping? No.....just better.
First use today of the Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements CK6 formula shave soap. Color me impressed. Lovely aroma, excellent slick creamy and very easy/quick to lather. If it matters, I use a bowl all the time to lather. As a wet shaving newbie description, I liken PAA CK6 formula to Castle & Forbes, Wholly Raw (actually very similar consistency in my mind), MWF, ToBS, Proraso Red, and Ogallala. For me, all of these make quick easy slick fun lathers that I will continually buy for open blade shaving. CK6's 1 hour after the shave face feel.....still nice, not greasy nor dry/sticky. The matching PAA AS, definite wife approved. Top 10 list.
The Ralf Aust today was shaving very well after the CrOx and strop treatment. Used no PS today, to test landing slick of the SS (and extra CrOx treatment). Sharp and slick equals easy landing movement on gorilla hair (as long as pressure is controlled and you don't have a landing oops). 3 pass DFS shave. I did have an oops on the 2nd pass, nicked my nose, and a small lower left cheek weeper (pressure). No big drama, both stopped on their own.
I hope I caught everyone's direct quotes from yesterday. Haven't been caught up on the thread since Tuesday evening. Ultra busy, only brief breaks between work load and active family to drop in at TSD.
Have a terrific Thursday Gentlemen!
