I haven't used a Merkur OC because that is what I have often heard abot them. It looks like you have a Bosonian type NEW in there and a Milardy New Improved and Lady NEW - similar to the ones we have been discussing but with smaller handles.
It's coming more into focus now. I'm basically testing each razor w/ 2 shaves. I finished shave #2 today I think w/ the second one back on the left. That would be a New correct? The shave is not as close. As I look at the pic the razor across from the Bostonian or the 3rd one back on the left looks to be another New Improved. I will move to that one next. Then I may revert back to the Bostonian for one shave to compare. I actually have an eighth razor not pictured. I need to see what that is too.
Shep have you shaved with that Sheraton (1st on on left) yet? I had one of those too and didn't like it.
Yup same here. I want to know what his metal one was named as well. The bakelite one was a Fasan made by Solingen and I am finding completed auctions with them on the german and austrian eBay sites, but nothing current. They aren't called slant or open comb so it is making it hard. One auction called it a double bevel (but in German) but I haven't found another slant that was called that. Ugh. With that particular model of New Improved, it came in several different cases. The case makes it a Bostonian, an Algonquin, a Richwood, or a New Standard. I think there were other cases as well. I just can't recall them. Ahh.. saw Rodd's post on what he sent, that isn't a New Bostonian on the left it is a NEW Belmont DeLuxe. They all look the same without their case. And those could be tuck-a-ways and not Lady/Milady. Again, case would help.
No Tracy I haven't used the TTO yet. Which brings up another q for you all. I'm getting the different terminology here. Can I assume then that what we refer to as SS or super speeds is any TTO Gillette w/ a safety bar that is not adjustable?
Sorry, Ranger Tech, Milord and many of the Aristocrats are TTO, non-adjustable, and have safety-combs. Yup.. its a bit confusing.
It's 8:30pm, I'm awake, not particularly looking forward to going to work... ...but it's an excuse to shower & shave, and that can't be all bad.
Yes... I always forget the knack and twist. And there is also a Gillette 7 O'Clock as well.... wait that is another 3 piece that is just a tech wannabe.. oh yeah and the Lady Gillettes are TTO too
No, it isn't all bad at all! Nice to have a new member pop up on HYD. Sorry for all the razor talk, we don't always do non stop page long razor discussions. This thread is typically more random. Have fun watching TV. Don't know how we got rolling on that many posts on razors. I'll try not to have that happen again tonight... Bong, how was your day?
How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men, and South Park.....done Going to bed, have a unplanned 3rd day of orientation tomorrow....only 1/2 classroom, then the other 1/2 on the street with a medic. That's better... Yes, welcome to the HYD thread Adeptus! Always nice to see new faces pop up in here....unfortunately most don't seem to come back Good night everybody....
No worries here, and thanks for the welcome. You won't run me off with razor talk. I'm not just a shaver, I'm an enthusiast. :happy102 Also, as indicated by my talk of work, I'm a 3rd shift guy, so you'll see a lot of posts by me at ungodly hours. It keeps me sane. ...sort of
Wow, reading the last two pages I feel bad for not being around... Where do I start... I haven't gotten either yet, I will certainly update.. The one you used today is a NEW DeLuxe Belmont, basically a NEW version of the Bostonian (New Improved) Definately a different feel between the heads. The other New Improved is the Tuckaway, or New Improved Milady. This one happens to be from a Tuckaway set. The 8th one not pictured is a Bar Handled New. That is what you saw listed as a Bostonian a page back. They did sell these as a Bostonian for a bit, but it is a common razor. If you like that one, keep it. Seriously. I searched fasan for the bakelite one, found it on ebay.de. The metal one was a complete surprise to me, only happened to find it because the seller said it looked like a Gillette, and Gillette is one of my search words. I will update as soon as I know more. The NEW Bostonian was just a bar handled NEW, the one that looks like a Bostonian with a NEW head I believe was only available as the Belmont DeLuxe. There are a LOT of names and sets for the New Improved version. Common bar handled NEW. You can have the one I sent. Haha. They are very nice. For a price point, I spent $40 for mine, the case isn't in great shape, but I will keep my eye out for you.
