Proraso PS Red
Zenith Boar
Ogallala SS Bay Rum
ABCo Straight (7/8, Japanese grind)
Thayers WH Rose
Ogallala Bay Rum Cologne
Picked this beauty up at USPS yesterday morning. Purchased from a user here on TSD (but found via a BST elsewhere). Don't know much history of the ABCo straights yet, but it's a very nicely put together with great attention to detail & materials. The scales are tough (no wimpy bendy plastic here), and the steel seems really hardened. Difficult to do it justice all at once in images....there's a mottled metal look on the tang, scales design is 'deep', and the mirrored metal finish screams 'HEY! you missed a spot here...and here.....and here!!!' More efforts required to capture all it's craftsmanship in images. This one didn't arrive shave ready.....so put it through a little work on the Shapton 12k, then stropping.
The Ogallala SS and Zenith boar is always a pleasant predictable match. Instant lather, which builds steadily into creamy slick goodness for straight razor shaving (smooth, silky). It is picky though (to me).....easy to overload it with water, gotta be careful. The Ogallala BR aroma is a wifey favorite, both in the SS and Cologne.
2.5 pass CCS today (needs some more hone work I think). Took my time first time out with the ABCo straight....Hold feel is very different (extended tang)...it's also heavy....wide, and unwieldy to me (but awesome at the same time!). Dry hands an absolute MUST. This Japanese grind is very thick, think half hollow/near wedge. Razor is very silent, all business. Had a couple chin landing weepers, as the blade touched down before I thought it would (new glasses, big razor = OOPS situation). Nothing that the Thayers didn't fix. No drama. Finished it off with a splash of the Ogallala Bay Rum cologne.
Hope everyone has a Wonderful Wednesday!
