Thanks Danny. Churchill Downs has some neat history. I grew up around it, and it is always fun to visit. I know some Derby glass collectors as well.

Excellent shave Charlie! My wife and I visited Churchill Downs a few years ago and had a great time. I won on a few bets and she lost it all! But it was a fun time!

I know a certain Samurai from 'Bama that certainly enjoy you using that shavette. He's (Chris @Bama Samurai) not picky about which brand blade you load into it. I think earlier in the month's theme we agreed Proraso is drug store soap if you live in Italy. Being an International gathering you got a great set up. Shave On!
That's something we ought to fix. I'll offer a solution, but I'm unsure about the legality. If a Canadian lived near the US Border would he be OK hauling shave gear through Customs? " Why, yes Sir. That box of soap and razors is for my personal use..." What if this unnamed Canadian had a US Post Office Box? Then Americans could mail him stuff to pass on to other 30 DC north of the border. Not trying to beat the system or get anyone in trouble. Just speed up the process of putting gear in peoples hands without the delay at a postal customs office.
    Keep moisturized!

Hi all. It was mostly more of the same for me this morning. Dovo Best, Haslinger marigold, Dapper Dan blue aftershave. And my favorite Wild West brush. I did my usual 3.5 passes. 2 weepers, both on the first pass. No irritation to speak of. I'll take it.

I have a few beaters I've picked up for when I'm ready to have a go at it. So I don't have to worry about mangling a good edge. I may also start with lapping film.

    June Basics / Oldies Focus

Arko shave stick in a tub
    Menthol crystal
    Omega boar brush
    '20 Gillette Single Ring
    Voskhod blade
    Generic Green AS
    Nivea Cooling balm
SOTD 06282019 '20 SiRi.gif After giving the 1920 Single Ring a Mothers Polish rub down it's still got a little tarnish but it's not oxidized like it was. Popped in a fresh Voskhod and considered tonight's lather. I was in the mood for menthol, but not fancy. Chose a medium-small crystal from the little tub and crushed it in my bowl. That blocked me from soaking the boar brush in that bowl... so I just ran some cool tap water across the bristles and gave it a shake. Loaded the fat brush in that small snap top tub of mashed Arko stick like a pro. In the bowl the lather did it's standard Arko thing combine with that crystal and what a fine lather! I could hardly smell the lemon over the menth, very cooling when applied. A new blade met 48 hours stubble in three passes. The Winner was me. No nicks, lower neck as smooth as I could ask for. After rinsing in cool tap water & application of the discount store AS my face was feeling a little dry. Neither soap nor AS have much in the way of post shave goodies. A dime sized dollop of Nivea Sensitive Cooling Balm fixed all that.
    Good Shaves Y'all!

Boy, that would be handy Rick. I wonder who your ‘unnamed Canadian’ could be?:)
Jokes aside, the only time I really need shaving things shipped to the Montana side of the border is when the product I want has Alcohol, or a US site won’t/can’t ship here, and/or the duty will be prohibitive. Last year’s Blood on Steel combo from Jeeves comes to mind. This year, I ordered just the BoS soap from Stirling and sacrificed getting the Splash to save myself a trip.
Truthfully, most of the stuff that you see on here is available through one of the Canadian vendors.
Also, I’ve shipped dozens of packages back and forth between TSD members across the border without issue or much delay. One caveat- declare a low value in case you do get the rare agent who tries to slap duty on used goods...

    Delivering the Basics for June

My "Spirit of St Louis Deluxe Limited Edition Flat Top Brush" arrived safely yesterday. While making delivery, Boris and Natasha were cordial but certainly reeked of frozen custard. I snitched them out with the Czar, but I sense discipline may be a little lax at some levels. Not a basic brush, but basically some fine work by one @jtspartan - thanks.

I've commented in the past how well this $20 shavette performs. I was wrong, the camouflage model was only like $13. Aside from the one area under the sides of my jaw that I just don't have the dexterity to make the ATG stroke, I have never shaved with a better tool. I often wonder, if early in this shave journey thing I'd have committed to learning this I would have still bought so much other stuff. Or, maybe the knowledge and experiences gained with other stuff helped me progress along.

I do really love the simplicity of this shave. Close, clean and irritation free.

    Trumpers Lime Skin Food

That picture is better, that is one very cool razor. All my Jwest razors have been very good steel.

    Can't get that here.... :eatdrink023:

That is why I smoke more than one cigar a day when I am in Phuket, to keep the mosquitoes away. It really does work.
