I did smooth side. Actually have two CrOx setups now. The first was a trial....12"x3" piece of raw leather and 2 pastes, $13 delivered from Amazon. These instructions said smooth side, so that's what I copied over to my first practice strop, a $30 no name d-ring version that came with the Henkels straight I purchased from a vendor on Etsy.
It wasn't me, and that's they story I'm stickin' to. I actually went in the bathroom after the deed was done, but this truly could have been bad news. If I remember correctly, none of the teachers ever found out about it. Back in those days, a lot of things happened that didn't result in detention. I was actually a pretty good kid, but I was always ready for some shenanigans. Never, ever got into trouble...and this would come as no surprise to @BaylorGator. I remember our HS teacher using carbon tet in the lab and one of our college instructors distilling a benzene mixture in glassware with an open flame. Leaky glassware caused a small fire that day. We also kept a coffee maker and a fridge full of bottled cokes in one of our college labs. Fast forward a few decades. I managed a lab for a few years. To put it mildly, safety was king. Times, thankfully, have changed for the better. I matured a tiny bit also.
Perry, congrats on getting move into your new home! Good luck getting settled over the next few weeks.
Enjoy your downtime, Chris. Looks like you picked a beautiful place. It was to see you again in STL this year, my friend.
Just awesome, Brian. Grandchick is a cutie, and he's really growing. It is great to have you back this month. We have missed you. I hope the worlds spins a little slower for you during July.
Now I wonder what kind of appendage has to be lost to give a failing grade? I was just figuring that on the hotel system of stars, all of your shaves are like 5 star. Now being the class trouble maker that I was, I'd generally be reluctant to rate a hotel at 5 stars without even getting in the room.
Here's another using a different font. I used to post in The Shave Of The Day threads but rarely used them. The border of Libya and Sudan? Nope, no beach there. Big Island? Tortuga, Haiti? Shhh, don't tell. It's more mysterious this way. That's why I quit posting in the SOTD thread, but still do here with the 30 DC. Here I get all the Enabling I need with the nitty gritty details. Thanks Paul! Everyone here is either a Coach or a cheer leader to others. Your explanation of lathering is much like mine. Couple of Decembers ago I learned Decadence as applied to loading soaps. We'll get Paul to accept over loading as an acceptable hazard with the benefit of better shaves from his hard puck soaps.
Safety is very important. I kept my students in line, by showing things that could go wrong by not following directions. Also, anyone horsing around would have to stop the lab, get some busy work and stay after school to do the lab with me. Needless to say, problem solved!
We're totally unpacked and have more than 90% of our stuff organized, Perry. It took us about 5 weeks of making steady progress each day. My office and getting pictures hung on the walls are the hold outs. I'm glad you have a few weeks off this summer to get settled.
Well, I'll head back to work next Monday and students start for band activities on July 11. Summer is basically over for me! We'll just have to work at it diligently and thoughtfully.
