I'll be popping in and out this month. I do have popsicle sticks, blade and stapler at the ready .
Had a very relaxing Canada day today while attending a native Pow Wow, Canada day parade and then enjoying a nice quiet meal at the local bar & grill. Topped the day off with a visit to my Dear Mother who was quite happy we dropped in. Nice stress free day and I bought some beautiful handmade native crafts and a beautiful eagle print. Met some wonderful people from all over Canada and a few from Maine as well.
I didnt take a pic but today's shave was Proraso green, Muhle silvertip synth brush, Wilkinson sword TTO equipped with a Super Max blade. Splash of Stetson and a touch of Clubman moustache wax to hold the lip Caterpillar in place . Hope everyone had a great day today!

    Just July 2019

    July 1

Razor - Gillette New Deluxe SC
    Blade - voskhod-teflon-coated.jpg (2)
    Soap - Stirling Iced Coffee
    Brush - Jayaruh #321
    Post - Alum

And they're OFF!!! July here we are and the following illustrates my plan:

    July Stuff.jpg
That's a good representation of my stash. There's more, of course, like all of my brushes on the counter, a few soaps on the counter and in my storage box and all the other stuff in the storage box. Including Russian Steel. But wait, you say, that's not a plan. Sure it is. I'm gonna use a bunch of this stuff in July. There you go. Especially those green tubs there. They're gonna come out and play a lot. Those pain sticks up there? Yep. Gonna use 'em. Those DE's? Yeah, those too. Gonna be a fun month.

I started it off by sticking with the New Deluxe SC and Voskhod and went for the Stirling Iced Coffee since it's Menthol Monday. That menthol kick felt good tonight too after a day in the mid to high 90s. Love the chill and I feel better already. Two passes and touch ups to a near-BBS finish and July is off and running! I'll get caught up with the rest of you but from scanning through it looks like there's a lot of great gear and shaves going on!! And only four more days to Cinco de Julio. Yes, Adam @Drygulch it's THIS month.

    Have a great Tuesday!

Well not really, but I could guess an answer.

I'm thinking that the subtractive method of scoring of shaves would never work for me. Every day I would start out with an A+ shave without even making a single stroke. Then it it could only get worse. With my inferiority complex, I just couldn't deal with it.

I don't score shaves, but I do know they are always getting better. I just love the feeling like I got today, when I just kinda notice how great my skin feels when I roll my head and do face stretches, then notice that I like how great I smell.

After a shave, most of the time I know exactly where to rub the cotton ball to prove that I failed the barber's board exam, but who really cares.

I seldom draw blood, but I if I do, I consider it a poor shave.

You may be irritated by my point of view, if so my apologies. If I was personally nurturing someone in the skill of our form of hair removal, my primary directives would be keep it comfortable, cut the hair, not the skin.

    Be well

Here we go! No straight razor means an opportunity to use a Stirling Glacial, which is not to be missed. Today it's Glacial Lemony Orange. The razor is a ball-end Tech, with a Rapira stainless blade. A nice, bulletproof shave.

I understand your view, but disagree. I have only been a straight razor shaver since Oct 2018 and I would say that after 163 straight razor shaves that I am pretty competent. Am I a master straight razor shaver? No way! My rubric is based on what I believe a newbie should be able to do on a SR shave. Now, on my 1 yr anniversary, I will have to grade harder to force myself to up my game. In teaching, you have to make appropriate rubrics that is age and experientially appropriate. I will assess a 1st grader, "easier" than a second grader. Another reason why I grade myself on an easier rubric is to encourage members who may want to try straight razor shaving when I constantly give good reports on my shaves. Finally, why don't you have an issue with Keithmax who constantly gets A's?

Congratulations on finally making the move. While there is a lot of work ahead it must feel good to be in the new home.

Enjoy the beach my brother. Here are some tunes...

I recommend the smooth side but I also use linen for my pastes.

    Very cute.

It was not always that way, I had plenty of Bs and some Cs in the beginning. I used the scoring system to help my track both my shaving progress and evaluate my edges. I don't it matters if you use an additive or subtractive scoring system, just consistent one. I found the scoring helped me progress but it is part of my OCD nature.

I have been straight razor shaving for a couple of years now and I things are consistent now.

    Tuesday Shave:

The second day of my cold water shave focus. Today I made a small change, while I used cold water for making lather I used hot water to warm and rinse the blade. I think I like that better, I will keep trying both. The edge was uber smooth and very sharp. A superb shave all around.

    Razor: Mastro Livi Gifretto
    Strop: Dry Gulch black latigo
Brush: Handle by Jason Omega Pro
    Pre: Proraso
    Soap: Stirling Blood on Steel
AS: Stirling Blood on Steel AS Stirling
    Scent: Zoologist Dragonfly

Keith, I just sense that Mr. Cawtah is a little put off that my grading system is inflated and does not truly reflect the nature of my shaves. I believe my explanation for why is sufficient.

Great shave and report, Keith! By the way, you are the first winner of the TSD Father's Day Raffle. Congrats and go pick up your prize!

All that matters is consistency in your score, shaving scoring is a personal thing. I watched your scores improve over time, meaning they are getting better. Compared to what I used to get to carts 95% of my shaves are A+, it is all relative. Now I grade against my traditional shaves.
