Gotta love the good old days when you could name a product by taking the action it performed and appending "master". :)

Well, if you're going to Australia then you can check out antique stores for English-made shave gear. :)

Took a couple of days off from things with the holiday weekend and all, so I'm still trying to catch up here...

I had gotten pretty scruffy so I finally shaved today. I decided to try a new combo, the Sheraton and a first-use X3 Spoiler. It seemed to be a decent pairing, a somewhat aggressive razor and a mild but sharp blade. The result was very efficient at mowing down several days of growth, though I did get a bit carried away and ended up with a couple of weepers. No complaints, however.

Rick, the benefits of international travel far outweigh the hassles of getting through customs and security. You can do some things to help yourself without spending money for extras like Global Entry or TSA Pre-check Cards. I suggest:
    • Spring for "Economy Plus" seating on long flights. For a couple hundred bucks or less, it gets you a few extra inches of legroom. It's a step up from the cheapest Economy seating, and it will make a difference. I'm a 6-foot guy, and Economy seats are tough for me. I'd even suggest checking the seating layout for the plane you are flying and picking a seat that does not have tray tables that fold into one of the arms. Get a seat with a tray table attached to the back of the seat in front of you. Otherwise you'll give up a couple of inches in seat width. Bulkhead seats sound good until you find out how narrow they can be. Aisle seats let you stretch your feet out into the aisle for short periods and also make it easy when you need to hit the bathroom or ask the flight attendant for another Coke.
    • Take a chill pill and resist the urge to crack jokes or make comments to the TSA agents. Compliance and a pasted on fake smile sometimes simplifies things.
    • Wear a loose shirt, pants with no belt, and shoes that slip on and off easy. Short pants can seem like a good idea for comfort, but plane cabins on long flights can get COLD.
    • Take an inflatable neck pillow. It takes up no space in your bag and might help you catch a few winks on the flight.
    • Empty the contents of your pockets into your personal item (backpacks work great) or carry on bag when you get to the airport. Watches, rings, etc. go into the bag too. If you don't pack this stuff, you have to put it in a tray and risk getting it stolen.
    • Leave laptops and tablets at home unless you want to fish them out for security agents to check.
    • Thing about the silhouette of anything in your scanned bags. Carrying a plastic gun may not be a good idea, for example. A TSA agent in Ft. Lauderdale quizzed me extensively about a metal Trac II razor handle and an empty water bottle. I leave the water bottle at home, and I got a plastic razor handle.
    • Keep your photo ID, passport, plane tickets in a front pocket of one of your bags so that you can get to it quickly.
    • Take some hard candies and pre-packaged snack foods. Energy bars are good.
    • If you can travel light (carry on bag and personal item only)...you don't have to pay to check a bag, you don't risk losing your bag, and it just makes things simpler. I highly recommend Rick Steves travel videos on packing light. Here's the men's edition:

Great idea! I googled up some info. Plenty of antique malls, and a chain of supply stores that seem to carry the full line of (Italian) Proraso products & (Italian) Via Barberia soaps / Omega brushes. I suspect I'll find something to haul home that I can't buy here. ;)
I just might pack a few pieces of American kit if I prearrange a swap or trade with any Aussie TSD Members.
I wonder if we have any...

Sounds like good advice. Years ago my father and mother liked to visit my older sister in Arizona once a year. After all the hub bub on 9-11 things got well... hairy. Dad had some medical issues, he needed to travle with supplies and was bandaged on the stomach. He did it two more times, then said no more! They wanted to remove the bandages at security of all places. He never flew again, won't type what he called them. Hope it's not like that anymore.
I have no reason to fly, nor do I want to. Last time I went to Boston was the last time I flew, that was years ago.
    I like the driving thing.
    Good luck!

Thank you Charlie! I rarely visit places I can't drive to. Getting into a long distance thought pattern ought to reduce my stress and frustrations. Since I'll be staying with family who have laundry machines available my clothes selection will be minimal. The less shave gear I haul there leaves more room to haul souvenirs home. I can't see the need for more than one well stuffed duffel bag, my cell phone, and important traveling papers. It's a long flight so I'll load some kibble in my pocket.

Understood, Terry. Flying can be a bear if you're not familiar with all the rules. It seems like they get more stringent all the time, but that's the world we live in. Before we took our first overseas flight, we did some research on the Internet and that helped. We also like to drive whenever we can. With the top down, I like the feel of the wind blowing through my curly locks. ;)

Been a very crazy and hectic day but I did get a shave in this afternoon. The razor is D. Corrado of Chicago which I think is rebranded Merkur 11C. The razor provided a very nice shave with a Astra SP and really want to spend some more time with this little lady and develop a deeper relationship with her. She is nice! The fine soap was outstanding. I love my Stirling but I also love the Fine as well. Y'all take care and I just need to get caught up with this chatty bunch.
